Is it too late to start WoW?.

Hi guys, I want to get back into MMORPG's but was wondering if it was too late to start WoW.
Many games are coming out in the next years (Crowfall, CU, Ashes of Creation and many more) and I am scared if this means WoW will somehow die.
What do you think, can it last for some more year?.

It will certainly last for several more years. Can't count all those "wow killers" that have faded into oblivion.

It's never to late to start but it can be quite daunting to see 110 levels.

If you can get past that your'e good to go!

I think its too early acctualy, wait for them to update the leveling experience in the past zones with the new immersive scaling & world quests system and then start it.

Also WoW will never stop operating in our lifetime, its most likely we will be dead before WoW will ever come close to ''ending''.

no, buy the whole game get a level 100 toon, explore and play and on the side level up other toons and see what you like. Game is going to be around for another decade or more.

Not really late to start, it'll go on for quite some years.
FOMO: "Fear Of Missing Out", also commonly known as people with a mental issue of managing time and activities, many expecting others to fit into their schedule so they don't miss out on things to come. If FOMO becomes a problem for you, do seek help, it can be a very unhealthy lifestyle..

That horrible advise, you get a free 100 buying the whole game. He should get the game and xp legion.

Going to be very honest about this.

This game is extremely cancerous to new players. Majority of the players have played for many years and will outright refuse to help, hold hands, or support new players at all. The raiding community is extremely elitist even though this is just a silly video game.

As far as starting from level 1 the experience is quite dated. It got a revamp in cataclysm but that was years ago and mmos have evolved even more since then. I highly recommend you have friends to play with if you are new.

Also using your free level 100 is absolutely overwhelming for new players even more so in legion. You have your talent trees, artifact slots, Artifact power and artifact knowledge, spells in general, all thrown at you at once. And all the tutorial does is maybe only show 5 spells when you easily have over 25 spells to use.

Majority of the players are old players. New players are normally turned away quite quickly or discouraged with how cancerous the community is to new players.

You are expected to know everything, and even watch boss fights before you actually play them or get kicked 90% of the time.

Even in low levels in dungeon finder. Players love to vote kick or bully new players that are simply lost or not know what to do. Instead of explaining you will get kicked.

So honestly the biggest hurdle is the cancerous elitist community. I've been playing since Vanilla myself and I honestly hate the treatment of new players in this game. It's similar to league of legends in certain ways.

Yes. You should wait until this hypothetical case comes to fruition before you even seriously consider playing World of Warcraft.

Keep in mind this may never happen thus rendering your chances at getting your free level 100 and enjoying Legion+ content close to zero.

Pff. Why bother starting a game if you are going to skip over most of it?

    Think.

You never touched the game before. You know nothing about it. You get a free level 100.

INSTANT overwhelming amount of abilities to learn and talents to choose from. Every new player I heard getting the free 100 is a disastrous experience. The game should really be started at level 1 as is designed. But the leveling experience is so dated and old.

Although I agree with oyu, you can't portray the masses against the minority - even yourself you're saying to the opposite. I've seen many new players even in Trade asking and people tell them google Wowhead not to be a dick, but being genuine about it.

You always get the big dick shouter groups, the tryhards, the arrogant bastards in any online game. You won't find that much until you start trying to be competitive - levelling zones for the most part will be their experience until they reach endgame - we plough through leveling as older players they probably won't so they will spend days if not weeks compared to us in hours. When they get to end level they will be in dungeons and LFR, you mostly will get carried because that's how it has gotten.

Personally, I always inspect dungeon players if they mess up to see any heirlooms or achievements and address them as a new player, I don't treat older players differently but I will say "Do you know this fight as a healer?" compared to "So you understand whats going on - would you like me to explain?".

Because the game starts when the leveling ends. For the most part.

The boost is there for a reason, new players will have an easier and better experience with current content than they will with the outdated leveling zones and quests. If they want to experience those at their level, they can make alts once they know more about the game.

It is never too late, just remember to not lose your RL in this game. I feel like I lost 7 years because of it, so when you start playing and you stop hearing from your IRL friends know it is a good time to stop lol.

I wonder what it would be like to have never played wow and start it now.

If you're wanna give it a shot and you're willing to learn your way around the game then by all means join us in Azeroth, and partially Outland and Draenor.

Although you should also be prepared to deal with or learn to ignore idiots bitching because you're new to the game, or just in general since, like the rest of the Internet, some people are just assholes no matter what.

So if you have the will then you go right ahead and play. Highly unlikely that WoW is going anywhere for the time being.

Even though I think you're exaggerating massively there's a certain truth to what you say. However, you have to put a fair bit of responsibility on the new players. If you join a group and have absolutely no idea what to do you're better of saying "It's my first time here, is there anything I should know?" like we all did in the past. Nowdays people just jump in, stand in fire, have pet taunts on, don't bother putting interrupts/stuns on their bars and then expect everyone to teach them everything. With that mentality you're bound to clash eventually, and you can't put all of the responsibility on either side.

And some of my friends who started off with a boosted 100 are now in Heroic/Mythic raiding guilds. So no don't pretend the free level 100 encourages a bad player.

???? You debating this as a career path, or as some silly game to play in your spare time?
As Yoda would say, "Play or do not play; there is no late."

There have been countless "WoW killers" in th past 13 years. They're all either shut down or F2P now. WoW isn't going anywhere. Everquest is almost 20 years old, was never nearly as popular as WoW, and still gets regular expansion releases.
