Question Did Trump Endorse Police Brutality?!?

President Trump encouraged police to rough up arrested suspects in a speech in Long Island, New York, Friday afternoon, prompting cheers and applause from the audience of cops.

"When you see these towns, and when you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon, you just see them thrown in, rough," Trump said. "And I said, 'Please don't be too nice.'"

"Like when you guys put somebody in the car and you're protecting their head," Trump continued. "You know, the way you put their hand over, like, don't hit their head, and they've just killed somebody. Don't hit their head. I said, 'You can take the hand away, OK?'"

This usually doesn't bear clarification, but since the president of the United States suggested otherwise during a nationally televised speech: It is illegal for law enforcement to beat or otherwise use excessive force on suspects, who are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

For example, in Suffolk County, New York, where Trump was speaking, a police chief was sentenced last year to four years in prison for orchestrating the cover-up of the beating of a handcuffed heroin addict who had stolen several items from the chief's SUV, including a bag full of sex toys and pornography.

The Huffington Post also reported that Trump said current laws "totally protect the criminal, not the officers."

"We're changing those laws," Trump said.

Watch the reaction of some of the officers. From excitement, nervous smiles, to shock, to WTF?!?

I get the feeling Trump has a big checklist titled 'How To Be An Authoritarian Dictator', and he just crossed out #37.

Every fucking time...he still manages to be even dumber than I can imagine. I'm disgusted that the GOP still defends this sorry excuse for a human being.

Yet more evidence that 'thug' has become this century's 'nigger'.

The only thing Trump knows about law enforcement is what he sees on Fox and Friends.

Except it violates the rule of law; innocent until proven guilty, that is part of our legal system.

Yes there is. Primarily that the cops aren't supposed to /be/ the violent criminals and it's kinda bad when they are.

"Criminals don't deserve to be treated nicely"

-The first people who don't find this abhorrent in this thread

Then we'll remind them that people that police arrest are SUSPECTED criminals.

Actually there is. Ever heard of cruel and unusual punishment? That is against the fucking law.

To be fair the U.S doesn't really have a president atm, every thing hes said/done [besides the EPA thing] is being ignored by every state and even the military on his new Trans ban.. The U.S is without a leader

It must be really hard to be in the frame behind Trump, I know I couldn't do it. I don't hide my visual signs of disgust very well.

Morality aside since you clearly don't care, do you really think police misconduct during their arrest will look good in court?

To be fair, Trump never ordered an official trans ban, so they can not ignore anything on that.

We really should treat rapists and murderers with respect.

It seems like some on this forum want them treated better/with more respect than law abiding citizens.

A civilized nation treats it's criminals in a civilized manner. Doesn't matter whether they just stole a candy bar from a local deli, or raped and murdered 1000 people, cut them up in little pieces and ate them. When you let emotions drive your law enforcement, you're headed for bad, bad things.

The best thing, honestly, would be to just replace all cops with robots. At least they wouldn't be startled of every single sound, empty their magazine at the suspect hitting nothing but innocent people, and let emotions cloud their judgment.

It is all a matter on how people twist words and how much people tend to believe to words that got twisted. People can spin tales of gold just like the miller's daughter can spin straw into gold. Rumpelstiltskin would be proud.

They aren't convicted of any crime when they're arrested.

And even if you don't give a shit about that, police brutality lawsuits cost the US taxpayers millions of dollars every year.

If one were to go by some of the comments on this forum, people are automatically guilty as soon as they read the first few sentences of an news article. They are already sharpening their pitchforks and lighting their torches.
