Playerunknown bans Hatespeech in his Battleground-Game

    https://www.heise.de/newsticker/meld...n-3794721.html

If just every game company and gaming forum would have as much courage as PLAYERUNKNOWN. Chats in PVP games and Forums often are filled with hate speech, and often, the owners do not reallly care, often even with a purpose as a large minority of the gamers actually has a right wing bias.

I think it is a great move and an example for those that think that ignorance is strength.

    What do you think?

I think folks trying to enforce their version of morality onto others end up loosing in the end.
"It doesn't matter if you believe me or not but common sense doesn't really work here. You're mad, I'm mad. We're all MAD here."

At the end it is true. Anonymity + Audience creates miserable Assholes.

While I do think sometimes we are steering way to the left in regards to some social things, I think this is a good step in trying to clean up gamer's image. I mean part of the whole thing with the 'gamer gate' was sexism/racism. While it was wildly blown out or proportion, we have all had to deal with (usually a squeaker) saying some stuff for the 'shock' factor thinking they are cool or something.

As an older gamer, it doesn't phase me in the terms of being offended, I just get tired of hearing it. You aren't edgy, you aren't cool, you are just a kid trying to be tough over the internet. I would also like to say, while I use the term 'kid' and a large proportion of whom I am talking about is younger teens, it also includes children that are of the older variety that never matured and can be 20-90+ years of age too.

Why the fuck are we bringing up a 2 year old post that has nothing to do with Playerunknown's battleground?

    Courage...?

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any online game that allows hate speech. I mean, maybe voice chat slips by because it's harder to capture, but chat based? That's a pretty standard rule.

So they're doing what practically every other game does regarding hate speech?

And apparently my lobby consists of super nazis and people yelling nigger over and over again. What's exactly the point of this? There's no chat in PUBG

The same PlayerUnknown who conveniently remembered he had super PTSD because someone allegedly put his dumbass through a glass door in college

In theory. In practice they don't really get punished.

The problem with this stance is the subjective nature of what people consider hate speech.

If a said "50% of all crimes in the US are committed by African Americans" Someone would deem this as hate speech even though facts can't be racist. Who decides? Some leftist moderator like on MMO-C?

Have you recently been in a typical WoW battleground or reading the trade chat?

Isn't that what every issue voter does?

    Not too sure on that.
It's more of probably that most games don't tell you if action was taken. Chances are, you'll never find out if that player was muted or not, or by the time you see them again, the punishment might have worn off already.

It being there doesn't mean they don't take action.

Horrible example especially, WoW is pretty well known for quick action for reports from trade chat.

Probably it is different in europe. Actually, racism is a daily topic on trade chat.

I think the last election showed quite clearly that ignorance is strength.

Owners of online enterprises "don't really care", because there's no incentive to except for optics. Chats online is filled with offensive speech, not because people are spewing their hateful beliefs, but.... because people are trolling for a response. The moment *anyone* starts caring about random posts online, half the trolls work is done for them.

Of course if you're spewing stuff that doesn't pass the "public ethics" litmus test, you should be banned/etc... thats pretty standard fare in online games, and I don't see how its "brave" of one company to follow the path that's been tread by 80 billion before them.

Its like praising an RPG developer on making a bold new choice of using a stats and experience system in their next game.
