Municipal government meddling with smokers' business

    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2017/08/...es-pharmacies/

I can't understand why THIS is a priority to them. How is it any of their business what I do with my body?

Do you smoke near other people?

I live in NYC, the city offers a lot of free health-services and clinics.
These are partly-funded by cigarette taxes.

But really...the real reason...is pretty simple...
Liberals want to control everything about your life!!

The issue I have, is if they are known to have 0 health benefits, can and will more than likely kill you, and are even bad for people to be around. Why are they legal in the first place.

These constant price hikes are obvious deterrents, just get it over with and make the sale of cigarettes illegal.

I hate cigarettes I hate everything about them. They smell there is absolutely zero redeeming value to them what so ever. The average smoker is completely oblivious to how totally and completely disgusting cigarettes are. I pray every day these things get banned and sent to the 9th level of hell where they belong. So no I wish they cost $99 a pack and only place you could smoke them is your own private back yard where no other human being or living entity has to partake in this disgusting habit

Because look at the last time the US tried to outlaw a previously legal substance. It didn't end well and crime rose sharply.

I see no problem with this. Though people will still buy them regardless of how expensive they are.

    $13 a pack?

    Time to start smuggling.

That one black guy who the cops killed in NY? He was selling illegal cigarettes, that's why they were trying to arrest him.

"McTroll," what you don't understand is that unless you are smoking 100% in places where nobody else has to breath in that shit, it's everyone's business.

And that doesn't even take into account the future health costs.

Agreed, but what happens when the price gets so high no one can afford it? Will the same happen as if it was out lawed?

I've heard cigarettes are like $20 a pack in Australia... jeez. Already at $7 a pack here I think that's very expensive so at $10 or 13 I would drop it completely... or just cut back drastically hah

This has not and never will be a valid argument. Taking part in any product/service market does not give you any say about the effects of others using it.

There are so many holes in that argument, I can't even.

    1. I'm in a movie theatre, and people around me are talking during the movie. I have no say?
    2. I'm driving, and someone near me is swerving. I have no say?
    3. I'm on a bus, and someone is listening to music outloud via speakers. I have no say?

    Yea, no.

You can't even, but not because of "holes", but because those are not valid comparisons. Here's some better ones:

    - You don't have a right to bitch about someone on food stamps buying a candy bar.
    - You don't have a right to bitch at iPhone users because them buying them makes them expensive.

You don't have the right to bitch at people who live their lives how they want, just because you contribute to the same resource pool. That's how those pools work; Some use very little, some use a lot. If that weren't the case, whoever operates the pool would either go broke or being rolling in money. Once your money is out of your hands, it's no longer your money and that's where it stops being your business.

As smelly as marijuana is when smoked, I'll take people smoking that over regular cigarettes any day.

    Ok. Now do candy bars.
