I picked out a £30 ring when I was engaged. The price does not matter, the thought and feeling behind it does.

This is true. It depends a lot on your equity, were and everywhere you live, all of your accumulated taxes (which many rich people don't necessarily master, as many think). Let not forget any annual financial obligations that one may have, such as caring for dependents, children, parents, multiple wives/girlfriends/playthings and such. Most rich people also pay someone else for financial genius if they do not possess it themselves to avoid audits and such.
Speaks volumes about the crap he'd have to put up staying with her.
I'd say it's a blessing in disguise.
general rule is 2 months salary should be spent on the ring..... not that I agree but even a quick google shows it.

I'm really curious what she got him that's worth around $2K. Gender equality and all that.
yeah, and at that you're looking at $20k+, and not a $1k ring. $1k might get you some choice at wal-mart, but not from a decent jeweller.
From the title, I was ready to start in with "wow, another stupid person complaining to stupid people online"... but when your budget is in the 6 figure range, this enables you to pay decent amount of the standard luxuries.
Its like if she complained that she has to take the bus to work every day. Its one thing if you're living off the bare minimum... its another thing entirely when your budget allows you to easily afford a car each.
Guy's a pussy. I dropped 3k and make nowhere his salary.
Still wtf, how can she complain... as if it's a toy ring.
it's the whole "Small loan of a million $$" all over again, when you're used to gifts that value a lot higher than that and you get something YOU would consider "Cheap" you have every right to be upset as it's below what you're used to. for the cheap ass fuckers like us, if our partner got you a ring valued at $20 you'd be pissed off too.
We only see it as a omg shes a gold digger because it's worth a lot more than what we would pay. Granted the Engagement ring is a lie but w.e is w.e.
