I agree. Here's why:

People say they announced Legion 2 years ago because WoD suffered extremely.

News flash, how many are still playing legion? I mostly PvP and it's the lowest participation by far, FAR less than even WoD so I'm going to assume that translates into PvE aswell.

7.3 does nothing but bring new PvP seasons for us. What is there for us to look forward to? I couldn't care less about 7.3 and abandon Azeroth and let it's enemies take control while we're away on Argus. Nope, I'm not falling for that. Doing exactly what N'zoth wants us to do lol.

That's because WoW is a PvE game primarily,the PvP has been dead since TBC.
PvE and casual content are going VERY strong right now

Not everyone plays in the PTR, and not everyone often check WoW fansites for latest information about PTR and datamined patches.

I'd honestly prefer them to announce the xpac 2 months before it launches and have very limited beta. Knowing everything that's in the xpac before it starts is shitty. leaves no room for surprises.

Honestly, expansion has been teased already. We have the kul'tiras datamine and the jaina poster from this year Blizzcon. 7.3 may even include some minor tease like 6.2 did with this Spellcloak of Suramar Keep your eyes open!

On one hand I agree with the OP: 7.3 has been on the PTR for so long, it's not news worthy anymore. Yes, the majority has not played it, but some have played it for months now.
On the other hand I am pretty sure Blizz will not say anything about the future xpac.

Conclusion: tonight there will be a really boring WoW event.

Nah, I think Legion announcement at GamesCom was a mistake, they should keep them at BlizzCon's.

Though, could be cool to see a cinematic 10-30 second teaser.

But then again, we have 2-3 patches on the board before next expansion. 7.3 and 7.3.5 are to be the closing of our expansion, with what seems to be huge bunch of content in 7.3, and 7.3.5 seems to be quite a slice too, even without the raid.

Sure, one of them is going to be true, but it'll be impossible to tell among the mindless drivel.

OT: 7.3 is still exciting to some people myself included, all I know is we're going to Argus, and there are new spell effects and animations coming, don't act like people on MMOC and WoWhead make up the majority of the playerbase, because we don't.

Furthermore Blizzard don't want players to be like:

"Yeah this is cool and all, but have you seen "Fury of Azshara" though!" or whatever the next expansion will be called.

The moment the expansion is teased players are going to want it, if they tease it too early, players are going to want it that much faster, and for longer.

The title says it, but I'll elaborate if I have to.

I personally feel like Legion announcement at Gamescom 2015 went down VERY well, delivering a lot more good than just a "crowd control" move during WoD lull needed.

Yes, they HAD TO do it back then, and all that - I've been around, you don't need to remind me. But Legion announcement did create that positive feel that carried us through the lull and far beyond.

Similarly, telling us pretty much the full plan for Legion rollout, all the way up to 7.3 that's not even live yet was an example of what looked like changed comms policy, where they finally realised that people stick around a lot longer if they have something to look forward to.

There was zero reason to think they wouldn't learn from that success and not try and repeat it at least to some small extent this time. Short teaser of the next expansion is all we needed this time around.

Remain in denial as much as you want - but 7.3 is OLD NEWS. Making Gamescom "all about 7.3" is a missed opportunity to hype up people far beyond attendees of US Blizzcon, boost virtual ticket sales, and more.

Yes I look forward to something other than boring crap of 7.2 BS wasteland, but it absolutely wouldn't hurt to tell me what's ahead.

Maybe if Blizzard had a little consistency players wouldn't be so desperate for moving on to the next disappointment. Players wouldn't be literally begging for this expansion to end if they were enjoying it.
