Isn't current Arms warrior some kind of melee void spec? They have some skills and AW traits that deal shadow damage since Stromkar was corrupted by Old Gods servant blood.
While I like the premise of a void-themed melee class (or spec), I'd have to state that the game needs (at the very least, more ranged DPS options than melee ones.
They could just make that the third demon hunter spec. They already delve into shadow magic, with the legion gone they could go all into it to combat the shadow. Same concept as taking on fel to combat the fel, but with the fel taken care of for now, they need to redirect their purpose.
You could play a subtlety rogue. That is a shadow-magic melee class already.
Personally the type of class I am always playing in RPGs is the Dark Knight archetype which doesn't exist in WoW and a plated Void class could be what I am missing.
While that's a cool idea, it's a lot of development for one class. People get mad if other classes have one blue post more than theirs, forget 2 extra specs.
Sure they could do it for other specs, but ideas that start on a couple of specs are traditionally stretched really thin (e.g. Artifacts-let's give them ashbringer and doomhammer...wait what about rogues?...ooh a dead pirate's sword and a demon's teeth!), not to mention the huge amount of devtime required to make all of them work to a reasonable standard. They can't get balance the specs that they have right now, they'd never manage another 24.
Tinkerer is actually a pretty good idea. Think off it as kind of an engineer on steroids.
One could be a more direct damage dealer using crazy rayguns, laser pistols, big shotguns and other custom built tools, and perhaps some tricks like electro shock gloves when ppl come into melee range etc
The other could be more of a trickster that has some of his inventions work for him, like sentry guns, land mines, maybe some robots/golems that act as temporary pets with medium duration uptimes for various jobs like tank/cc/heal. The class could make use of its pets by adding something the demonhunter in D3 has, by putting some damaging ray between himself and his sentry, which then deals continuous damage to anyone it touches, while not having to channel this and do other stuff ontop of that.
The third could be a battle medic, actually using NON-magical healing like syringe shots, bandaging and shock treatments and techy gadgets to cure debuffs and heal BLEEDING debuffs and physical effects like hamstring and dazing by relaxing the muscles of the teammate in need.
A psychic melee is essentially...a monk? So..yeah, no. It'd be a change of flavor only, almost two identical classes doing the same things just different "flavors" IE, one void, one "chakra".

once the legion is over (spoiler ahead) all demon hunters will collectively committ suicide as the final grand sacrifice, so we won't have to see that shitstain of a class again and make room for a similarly boring 2 spec rdps/heal hero class that starts at 110

Sadly you are right. Quite ironic since the fundamental idea of a Dark Knight is miles away from a Death Knight.
Dark Knight would be like if Paladin has a Shadow spec like Priest has. Death Knight is sadly a watered down, whimsical Necromancer in plate.
But yeah, Death Knight qualifies for "evil plate character" and therefore the chances of getting a Dark Knight are almost zero.
