Amazing to see how people actually take the bait of these terrorist attacks by being, well, terrorized. You do realize that's what they want right? They want you to feel like you can't ride the subway, or take a plane, or enjoy a coffee at a cafe.

The reality is that yes, these things happen. They will always happen. They HAVE always happened, throughout mankind. This didn't just start recently - that isn't to say we should give up on preventing them, but take them with a grain of salt and live your life people. I know the brown people are scary and all, but get a grip.

So they have failed then? seeing as everything is back to normal in 24 hours as always after terrorist attacks, except for the victims of course.

1 person hurt by a terrorist attack is one too many, why would be so heartless?

OT: What is absolutely obvious is that terrorists are wising up extremely fast to counter-surveillance techniques, which is a VERY worrying trend. There isn't an awful lot that security forces can do to stop someone determined to carry out an attack if he's keeping to himself. Most of them get caught because they end up talking about it to someone else.

Wrong. So delusional that you think Tory police cuts have no effect on terrorism.

And hurricanes have nothing to do with climate change!

    It's about probabilities.

They haven't always happened at this frequency whilst spending billions of dollars trying to stop them

Pull your head out of your arse. The relationship is as tangential as population size, not direct and not meaningful.

The reason that attacks are getting through, as anyone who's not a frothing conspiracy theorist will tell you, is that the perpetrators are wising up to surveillance methods and making greater efforts to stay undetected.

Not everything is the fault of "the evil Tories".

But hey, politicising terror and suffering is nothing new to you lot is it. Sling enough shit and something will stick, right?

This isn't true. They aren't wising up. Four Lions is pretty much an accurate portrayal of UK militants. They are inept. Community policing cuts have massively damaged the polices ability to gather and filter intel. Tip offs and human intelligence are the most important methods in fighting domestic terrorism. You can handwave and dismiss it all you want, but police cuts mean that police can't handle terror threats without the army, it means intelligence dries up, and you are willfully ignoring warnings from the police federation, serving officers and commisioners.

But hey create you own narrative devoid of reality.

There is also the element of blowback : i.e Manchester - Libya policy.

The kid was part of the Libyan exile community in Manchester, his father was part of Libyan Islamic Fighting Group. UK covert action in Libya in 2011 supported and armed jihadi groups such as LIFG, as a proxy force against Qadafi to promote its foreign policy objectives. He was allowed to go to Libya and Syria and return handwaved by MI6 through security in order to fight for LIFG. The government had an 'open door’ policy that allowed Libyan exiles and British-Libyan citizens to join the 2011 uprising that toppled Muammar Qadafi (which he did with his father, before going to Syria to fight with an AQ affiliate there or possibly IS according to french intelligence and his sisters testimony).

Its complex as british support for LIFG goes back to the 1990's : there was an operation to assassinate Qadafi using the LIFG 1996, that failed and let to Britian allowing members of LIFG to settle in the UK (manchester).

Essentially its blowback from poor policy choices mixed with the usual jihadi narcissism.

I am just glad this thread has so many physics professors and bomb experts to tell me what did or didn't happen. MMO-Champ must have the greatest people in the world. Not only do we al clear Mythic raids casually. We each hold multiple doctorates and are experts in many fields.
