It seems like for most people, life on the internet follows this pattern:
1. You first discover online communities like a forum like the battle.net forums and have fun chatting with others who enjoy the game.
2. You start to get annoyed with people who talk about things you don't want to talk about, so you leave general chat and stick to one of the smaller forums.
3. You start to get annoyed with people who talk about things you don't want to talk about, so you dig around and find a fansite like mmo champ and start using their general forum instead.
4. You start to get annoyed with people who talk about things you don't want to talk about, so then you stick to one of the sub forums.
5. You start to get annoyed with people who talk about things you don't want to talk about, so you switch to one of the mmo champ chat threads.
6. You start to get annoyed with people who talk about things you don't want to talk about, so you dump the chat thread and join a discord server.
7. You start to get annoyed with people who talk about things you don't want to talk about, but at this point you've refined your community to a handful of people and 3 of those you hate, so you just text back and forth with the ones you like.
8. Finally, at this point, you are old, you hate everyone and get rid of them all.
tl;dr, people keep moving from platform to platform to try to shed people they don't like until finally they isolate themselves.
