    21:9 Advantage Argument

So a little backstory for those of you who don't know, 21:9 is a widescreen resolution format that allows people see more horizontal pixels than normal. A normal 16:9 monitor is around 1920x1080 pixels but 21:9 can come in at 2560x1080 or 3440x1440 resolutions.
    ---

With that out of the way, almost every current generation game out there today including older ones all support these resolutions including all other Blizzard games with the exception of Overwatch. The Overwatch development team insist that having more FOV (field of view) would give to much of an advantage to those players who have these monitors and as such have cropped the game and zooming it in for 21:9 users thus resulting in being able to see LESS than a normal 16:9 users.

My argument here is how is this any different than any sort of other advantage people can obtain through hardware, why does Blizzard only care about this one aspect? Why is no one complaining about people with 144hz or 200hz monitors as these also give an advantage. Also how about console players using mouse and keyboard? What about faster internet speed that lowers latency more than others? It makes absolutely zero sense to complain about people having better hardware than someone else.

16:9 is the standard, enjoy it; but also don't ask for people who choose to move forward faster than everyone else to suffer on top of that. People act like this is any different from when everyone was transitioning from 4:3 to 16:9 where were all the complainers then?

I could see if supporting 21:9 was this far fetched future technology that is expensive to incorporate into games but it's not. Just let people enjoy themselves for goodness sake.1% of PC users own Ultrawide monitors, how in anyway shape or form does allowing these people hurt the game in anyway; especially those of us like myself who just play this game casually.

There doesn't even need to be an advantage.

CS:GO supports 21:9, they just don't support increasing your FOV meaning a 16:9 screen sees just as much.

If you could increase your FOV it'd be a huge advantage for those screens but you can avoid this pretty easily, it's just Blizzard having shitty 21:9 support in all of their games.

These things might give people an advantage. But in the end skill trumps it so hard that it isn't going to make the biggest difference. It is like having a sick gaming mouse and keyboard does in fact give you a very very small advantage to someone using something that just isn't as good. But if you put say.. the best player in the world with the shit equipment they still kick the living shit out of your average joe playing the game.

Skill and time investment to devolope it are going to be what win you almost all your games. Only when you are playing with people almost exactly your same skill level and when you are playing at the bleeding edge of high end do these little things start to become apparent. So two professional players and one playing with a 5 dollar mouse, 8 dollar keyboard, and a 75 dollar monitor will suffer against someone using all the top of the line stuff will suffer. But in bronze, silver, and gold you pretty much aren't going to get a huge gain and lets face it.. that is where a majority of players are.

Seeing more stuff on your screen goes far beyond having a 144hz screen or having better peripherals, it actually needs to be accounted for in map design and stuff, expecting to actually have more horizontal vision because of a 21:9 screen is nuts, it shouldn't ever happen.

But again, you can avoid this entirely and still give 21:9 support.

No one is punishing you. The price you pay for early adoption is lack of support before the market catches up.
