Portal Problem: Static City Portals and world portals REMOVED!

    Good day friends.

As of now we have a 1000 static portas all over the place, since we have a class in game that can make portal (MAGE) to almost everywhere why not just Remove all of those Static portals, it feel so fake as in lore and in the Visual perspective to have so many portal Hubs and visual static portals...

Since to maintane a open portal you would need alot of energy and someone or something to keep that portal open

it feels like we are playing a PTR since the Developers can't invent cooler transport system.

IDEA: how about we try to focus on making Naval and Zeppelin ports, where Ships and Zepelins would travel to (we are open for new ideas aswell) but Blizzard has always said that they want an OPEN WORLD WITH OUT LOADING SCREENS, with all of this portals if you are going to travel to some place, you just take 3 or 4 portals and you are just where oyu wanted to be.

Would be great with more and new transport system.

Take as an Example: The Stormwind and Ironforge Tram is Deserted, in Vanilla it was full of people hanging around.

2nd Example: the Ships from Menethil Harbor or even from stormwind are almost every time empty with out players on it, it is sad to see since in vanilla they where full of people and full of life.

Ships and zeppelin makes people talk and meet up, the time oyu use to wait for it or travel are times you can speak and be social with friends and/or new people.

Removing static Portals would open up alot of social aspect of our MMORPG, in vanilla Mages where alway looked after since they could make portals, it gave people the incentive to search for other people and talk.

So what do you guys think, should we have more transports in World of Warcraft?

    Dear Regards,
    Wolfrick

What would be a cooler transport system than an instant teleport?
And did you think about all those fossil fuels needed to power all those obsolete technology? They should quickly replace all of those ancient transportation technologies when all needed to power those portals are conjurable mana strudels.

Don't fix what ain't broken. (and no, it is not broken)
They always told me I would miss my family... but I never miss from close range.

    No. No. No.

The last thing we need is people bored with nothing to do but say nonsense and harass people.

No thanks. Mages get easy portals anywhere in the world. Everyone else still has to go back to citys to get to the portals.

lol thats the best answer ever. i agree with mages need to be the portal makers as its just a revenue stream for them. i miss teh gold i could make setting portals. but if peopple couldnt insta travel anymore i think the servers would break under the complaints of the butthurt

dude, you're complaining about a computer game with magic, aliens, and orc being fake? lol

loading screens are also necessary, what do you think, they just put them in so you can see some art?

No, they give me 2 minutes to alt tab and do whatever. There's nothing wrong with the system at the moment, both can co-exist, people use whichever one they need or feel like using.

I just wish mages had received a useful portal/teleport target for Legion. Apart from that - everything else is fine.

What I'd love to see is the following combo:

Set Anchor : Set anchor at current location in open world - cost 500g.
Teleport Anchor : Teleports to anchor location.
Portal Anchor : Portal to anchor location.

Challenge Mode : Play WoW like my disability has me play:
You will need two people, Brian MUST use the mouse for movement/looking and John MUST use the keyboard for casting, attacking, healing etc.
Briand and John share the same goal, same intentions - but they can't talk to each other, however they can react to each other's in game activities.
Now see how far Brian and John get in WoW.

I agree with you. Fully. And anyone disagreeing should read. And then come up with a valid response.

Every response here is a comment based on laziness. The same people who care more about instant gratification and less about immersion. You comments are fully correct. The guy talking about "obsolete technologies" has NO idea what he's saying. He's commenting on stuff not remotely lore based. As none of the aforementioned are obsolete lore-wise. All of these people would also say flying should be instant when an expansion is released. "Obsolete." ..... Does that guy realize we ride around on horses and tigers? .... And Flying machines and marvels are Goblin and Gnomish engineering are "obsolete?"

Magic is machine. Science is science. Both have always existed in Warcraft. SCIENCE is actually the newer of the two, and not remotely obsolete. We didn't storm Icecrown Citadel with portals. And what's cooler than taking a portal? Literally anything. You can go play Mario on NES and "take a portal" to each zone and have a load screen in-between.

Honestly, I'm okay with some of the cities having portals. Like Dalaran. It's a city of mages. But, they shouldn't be infinitely open. There should be a mage (npc) that you talk to, perhaps toss him a gold coin, and he open a portal to your selected destination.

I recall, in vanilla, wanting to go see the home of the Dwarves and Humans as a Night elf. That was a thing. It legitimately happened. I ran and ran and ran. Found some lady on a tiger, got upset cause she wouldn't tell me how to ride a tiger, later realized she was an NPC. Ran and Ran. Waited on a dock. Asking people which boat I want to take. Getting to this little harbor town that looked NOTHING like the Night Elf city I had just left. Asking around to figure out which way to go. Getting killed by a ?? Orc on the road. Finding a geared Dwarf with a giant sword to help escort me because I got lost and took the wrong path (Maps were all blank, you see). I remember him being my hero, riding around on his awesome ram. Passing by giant stone statues. Man, back in the elf place all we have is trees. I mean the one is shaped like a bear but it still a tree. Finally Seeing the gates of Ironforge. I was in awe. I mean, coming from a game like Runescape this was Amazing. The city is INSIDE a volcano??!?!?!?!??!?!?!? .. (I called it a volcano cause there was lava and stuff.) Getting on a Tram... a machine... Literally elves have trees and tigers and everything is made of wood. And now there's a freaking subway. And then Seeing Stormwind. I spent hours upon hours just exploring and looking around. Finding my way..... I remember it like it was yesterday. And that was like 14 years ago?.... I am so thankful that there wasn't just a portal. If I'd ask how to get there and someone said "Take that portal" I'd have been like... oh, okay. I mean stuff would have still been cool, But there wouldn't have been immersion. I wouldn't have been killed by a Crocolisk or an Orc. I wouldn't have Marveled at the magnitude of the world.

Yea. I agree. Some days I'm lazy and taking a portal everywhere is fast. But there's no immersion what-so-ever. It's and RPG game. I feel like everyone forgets that. They just wanna get in, get out, and get on with their lives. They don't want to take the time to enjoy or appreciate it. They don't want the RPG element.. They want it to be a menu and then you just click which mission you'd like to go on today. It's been building to this for years, with the instant porting to dungeons and everything. You don't actually go into the world anymore. People are always amazed when we "have meetings" in game or just want to mess around and RP a little and I take them to these amazing vistas and places they had No idea even existed. Because they have no reason to.

They're just "cool." They take portals.

Oh, for fuck's sake, shut up. It's so absolutely ridiculous. The "immersion" in taking the Ironforge tram vs. a portal. You have no fucking idea what immersion is. It must be one of the most misused and mindlessly tossed around token terms in gaming communities in the last few years.

Immersion, like waiting Starwars Galaxies style 30 minutes for a shuttle? Convenience is good.

  20. #20
If it were up to me, I'd remove the static portals, yes...

But would instead put portal providers in the main locations, and you can pay them to open a portal to anyplace where there was once a static portal.

So, I'd increase, not decrease, convenience, but would improve immersion by having a NPC open a temporary portal for you instead of it just being there permanently.

(I'd also provide boats, caravans and other ways of transportation, for both immersion and convenience, almost everywhere).
