Should we invest more investment in undersea research and exploration?

Recently watched Blue Planet II (because David Attenborough is amazing) and it got me thinking about a subject I have mentioned before but Should we consider more investment in undersea research and exploration?

I suspect a number of space buffs will say no and suggest most investment should go into space exploration because we fucked the planet up but to me that's defeatist /shrug over 70% of the planet is ocean and we still haven't scratched the secrets within that could drastically improve our lives both medically and scientific

James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for research investment. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is...

    James Cameron.

    Prolly best that we dont!

If we find anything of use down there countless countries will lay claim and then mine, farm the shit out of it till there is nothing left so its best to just leave it to nature and leave it at that.

Anyway our future lies in the stars anway.

I'd imagine that in the future, we'll do the same thing we will in space: mount aquatic colonies.

I am an advocate for space exploration but I also think we should explore the oceans more and I am all for undersea research. I would increase the funding for both by a huge amount if I was running things. I would just suck it all out of worthless things like the welfare budget to fund it.

And I am not convinced we are going to master space travel let alone successfully colonize worlds and life in an artificial space station sounds like Hell

If we mess up earth like we do now, we will mess up every other planet.

We have a 100% guaranteed earth right now, right here.

I agree I fucked the thread title, it should say: Should we invest more in undersea research and exploration?

This planet is going to die. There's no if about it. We can either perish with it or expand out to the stars for a replacement planet.

I would focus more on exploring the Planck scale rather than thinking there is some great discovery waiting under the ocean or on Mars.

The real question is: what is your own assertion based on?
