    Why am I not surprised...

    EDIT: Oh damn 1,500 posts.

I'm surprised Sweden is in the list, even if it's on 10.
But then a certain group probably is the majority of the "happy" ones over there.

Social Democracy is great, who knew. I'd put it beside Liberalism as the best working ideas and ideologies.

Swedistan etc. That's usually the reason whenever people act "surprised" when Sweden appears high up on any lists.

They're cold countries, you need to freeze your nutts off to be happy.

probably cause the people that make these lists favor those qualities? also odd how none of those countries have a real army to speak of. must be nice being friends with good old USA.

The term you are looking for is social democracy OP. Not Democratic socialism. The former has no intention to transition to socialism.

Might also be because the countries are among the richest per captia countries. Even though stuff is more expensive we also have more buying power.

The happiest states in the US are cold states too, for the most part except for Hawaii and CA. I think it's not the cold so much as these places are full of white people for the most part so happiness is a lack of minorities.

How'd they get that rich? Americans are always telling me how they're socialist and going to turn out like Venezuela (which the USA has been practicing economic warfare against for god knows how long).

Actually, you are right I forgot the link. Let me go fix that.

EDIT: Okay I fixed it. Now use your secondary tactic of thread derailment by calling it "fake news."

Sweden will continue to fall off that list. You can rent a big house in Belfast for same money as a 2 room apartment in crappy Malmostan, where do you rather live lol.

Ok I think it is time to give an important message to Americans. All the countries you listed are 100% capitalist. We do have parties called "socialist party/ conservator party/liberal party..." but they are all 100% based to work on a capitalist system so they are still 100% capitalist.

The MAJOR difference between USA and the rest of the developed world is that we place Individual rights and freedom above business rights. Yes you have much more freedom in all these countries than in USA (exept with the right of buying guns but in exchange you gave up the right to live in a safe gun free environment).
A general example is that if you want to start a grocery chain in USA, the government will most likely let Walmart eat you with little intervention. In other countries, the government will help everyone have a fair chance by intervening. You guys might call it "freedom" for businesses but in revenge you take away the freedom of you and of the entire population to have a chance to start a similar business.

That was a business example. Now apply ideology that is Human prosperity above everything else (business, money, banks..) to other areas like health care, education, laws, freedom, religion and you can easily understand how they end up living better with their system.

Also the population of these countries have a much higher purchasing power than americans.
USA has the highest GDP per capita which is calculated by taking the whole country GDP and divide by the population. However, 1% of the population own 44% of the wealth in USA. So a more realistic way to compute it would be: [USA'sGDP-44% of the GDP]/population. With that you will get the GDP per capita which reflects 99% of the population. This is much lower than the other countries.

In the other countries, the richest 1% own somewhat around 10% of the wealth rather than 44%. Thus their GDP per capita for the 99% is much higher.

For the % you can easily google them. Different source returns different %. usually around 40% to 50% of the wealth to the top 1% in USA.
Don't like the numbers? then stop voting republican. Don't like the democrats? then try to push for a third party.

Aand they arent unique in that matter.

Among alot of other things, benefits can be
For example, as the result of a collective bargaining agreement between the 3F trade union and the employers group Horesta, workers at McDonald's and other fast food chains make the equivalent of US$20 an hour, which is more than double what their counterparts earn in the United States, and have access to five weeks' paid vacation, parental leave and a pension plan.
