New rules, discuss them here: Likes, dislikes, comments and feedback

As of today the MMO-Champion Forums are equipped with the following posting rules:

MMO-Champion Forum Guidelines
Though this forum is completely unofficial and not bound by the rules that apply on the official World of Warcraft forums, there are still some general guidelines that should be taken in account before participating to these boards.

These rules aren't here to annoy you, nor do they target anyone in specific. These rules are here to ensure MMO-Champion remains a community that can be enjoyed by many.

These guidelines are effective today and do not apply to posts made before today. If your post/thread is in violation of these guidelines, action will be taken and a warning given.

Last update: Tuesday 29th of July 2008.

We are all human
Keep in mind that a poster is also a human being. Try to be nice and civilized. There is no need to be rude or hurtful.

Don't flame. Don't provoke.

Don't call people "dumb fuck", "idiot", "retard",... You get the point. Right?

Search before you post
Please use the forum's search function. It really works!
If there's already a thread about the subject you wish to discuss, it might be advisable to make your post in that thread. Maybe the answer to your question is already out there?

Think about your topic's Subject. No really, we mean it!
No "I have a question" - This is just too vague. Your topic's subject will decide whether people read it or not.
No "Spell Pushback" - Again, be more specific: "Spell Pushback - How will it affect XYZ"
No "The new mounts..." - Specify! "The new mounts, how do I get them?"

Your topic's subject should attract readers, not frustrate them. Be clear, be descriptive, be specific but keep it short. Using appropriate titles will also help people when they are looking for a thread about a specific topic.

WE ARE NOT DEAF AND BLIND; WE CAN SEE YOU!
Do not type your thread's subject IN FULL CAPITAL LETTERS. There is no need to draw extra attention to your post. It will be noticed.

Everything is General Discussion!
Make sure you are posting in the correct section of the forums. For example:
- A question about a Paladin spell belongs in the Paladin section.
- A recruitment post for your guild belongs in the recruitment section.

Not everything should be posted in the general section. It's like trying to have a conversation in a crowded room.

Contribute. Don't just elevate your post count
When replying, we expect you to have something to say about the topic at hand. Don't just post "QFT" when you could post "I agree because this and that." or "lollolol" when you could have spared us that post.

In addition; this is also quite irritating:

I'm just quoting what the person above me said.
It's okay to quote, but usually, after the quote follows your interesting and thought-out opinion.

Parlez-vous Anglais? Do you speak English?
MMO-Champion is a website visited by people from all over the world. Imagine how chaotic things would become if everyone wrote in their native language.

Therefore, English is the preferred language in our community. Make your post in English. If you're not good at English, ask a friend to help, or write your post in the best English you've got. No one is going to make fun of you.

U cnt sp33k liek this, kk?
Not having English for your primary language is no excuse to talk like an idiot, pardon my French. Leetspeek, unexisting abbreviations, intentional spelling disasters, etc will only get your post/topic deleted.

Wall of text crits <Reader> for 99,999 damage.
Use your big ENTER key to space out your impressive wall of text. Paragraphs actually make reading easier.

Other things not allowed on MMO-Champion
Though we are not a big fan of censorship, we do have a few big no-noes concerning "stuff you can't post about".

• Gold-selling/Account selling or trading websites
• Keyloggers (evidently...)
• Hoaxes/phishing websites
• Activities considered illegal by Blizzard (botting, hacking, cheating, exploiting,...)
• Racist/Hate content
• Otherwise offensive content (religious stuff, porn, ... This is a website about video games remember?)

Posting any of the above will result in your post being deleted and your account suspended indefinitely. Repeated abuse of our forums will result in us reporting you to your service provider.

Posting images
Posting images is fine, as long as they don't consume the entire screen and take too long to load. Almost all image hosting websites offer you a series of links when you've uploaded your image. One of these links is specifically to post thumbnails on a forum. It will look like this:

[nobbc][/nobbc]

Please only post pictures in their thumbnail size. If readers wish to see the larger
versions, they will click the link themselves.

Please use this thread to discuss those rules, suggest a new rule or state your opinion about them.

Thank you!

This, sadly, is not entirely true :-\ way to many people bashing on peoples English..

Could probably violate all rules in one post. But what the heck :P

I am more than happy with these new rules, as long as the users of this forum apply them. Lately, these forums have become a flame fest where the goal was to be the quickest/most rude person to answer to a new topic. 75% of the threads were filled with QFT, dumbfuck, idiot, retard, noob, douche and all their variants.

Thanks a lot for those rules, and let's pray for people to follow them.

Totally agree with this one. Imagine how it would be if you used "leet-speak" in real life as often as you use it on forums, and I don't mean just in English, but also in your respective, native languages.

Example: GC works at McDonalds. Some idiots walks up to the counter and asks for a Whopper. GC tells him they do not sell Whoppers. The idiot flips a nut. Calls GC off and throws straws at him. GC asks him to leave.

I am for the most part happy with these rules, and they should be followed and people should be reported for breaking these rules to rid these forums of trash.

I do have one comment though..

I understand your dislike for the use of images not in thumbnails, but does that really warrant the ban hammer? A repeated offense, ok, or someone who was proven to intentionally post a non-thumbnail to piss a mod off, fine, but for the first offense? I think there should be a warning (besides the rules page).

Obviously by this post you can tell I was banned for posting an image without thumbnail'ing it. I know others have as well though, so this isn't just 1 guy "QQing". I got a 14 day ban for something that should have been a warning. After seeing the "l2 thumbnail (basically)" message in red on the top of my screen, I searched for an hour or two for a "rules" page or something to the like, and could find nothing. I really think that you should put these rules somewhere a lot more noticeable, and even then, give a warning before banning someone for something as small and non-threatening to the forum's well-being as this.

Other than that, great job mods =D. I enjoy posting here everyday!

I support our new nazi-like regime!

Seriously though, the amount of whining and random flaming on this site is becoming appalling so get the banhammer out.
Lag - Network related. High server response time, stop downloading.
Low FPS - Your computer can't keep up with the game - buy a better one

Dalaran doesn't lag (often) your pc just sucks.

When you see so many full size images and rule violations in a day, for now it should be worth some sort of ban. It isn't THAT hard to read the rules.

Did you use to play SROby any chance?

I seem to remember us competing for top forum troll on the fansite.

Why maybe I did. But this is not the thread for that!

In recent lieu of so many people getting banned, hum hum, I'm personally glad that these rules have been posted and made clear.

Now if you get banned it could be for an actual reason with a link back to the rules notifying which part of them was broken rather then just banning for something that a mod doesn't like personally.

This will also help keep the flaming to a minimum and keep some of the idiots away.

I still think that these forums need to be run like the EJ forums where if you talk like and idiot you get an IP ban.

Overall, good job guys!
