Ret weapons perferd at lvl 80

anyone with an inside scoop on what type of weapon will be best for ret pallys, sword? mace? axe? polearm? can i get the pros and cons on each type please if you have the information on lvl 80 epic weapons, and what is gonna fit our role better in pve and pvp.

Maces - Dwarf/human pallies
Swords - Human pallies
Axes - really isn't any specific Race.

On horde side, there's no weaponspecialisation so no difference.
Any weapon with the best stats/dmgrange is the best, no matter if it's an axe/polearm/mace/sword.
If there's a

200dps 3.5speed mace (600-800dmg) 2h axe
100stam+100strength+100critrate

or a

200dps 3.6speed sword (580-840dmg) 2h mace
100stam+100strength+100critrate

then obviously the mace will be the best choice no matter if you're doing PVP or PVE

We dont have any specific weapon specs so it wont matter, you will be grabbing the weapon with the best stats whatever class that is.

Personally I am hoping its a sword, since I feel like pallies should be swinging swords not axes or polearms

Swords or maces would fit best lore/movie wise, but if people prefer looks/lore over performance,
they'd be playing on a RP realm

Polearms tend to be way too fast (see: Painsaw). Which makes them pretty much useless except for hunters who only really care about the stats (and look).

As far as the way Blizzard itemizes pvp 2-handers:
maces and swords are better than axes because even thought 50Str == 100AP, Divine Strength favors weapons that have Str.

So in general:
1) Get the weapon with the most dps
2) Get the slowest Weapon Speed
3) If all other things are equal, favor weapons with Str over AP

kinda looks like he goofed up the speed considering the mace does more damage while the sword is the slower one and should have more dmg.

but with seal of blood/martyr does it matter how fast/slow the weapon is?

Actually the sword he posted will hit slightly harder overall - it has a wider damage range that averages to 10 damage higher (which is still too low for the speed difference, it should hit on average about 60 higher per swing)

But if there are two weapons that are VERY close, pick your racial, if one is even a slight upgrade, it would probably be better. Also, remember that for PvP, speed makes a difference, but for PvE, it doesn't (blood is unaffected), though PvP weapons are largely clear in their progression and you get to pick your poison.

to your 1) not as important as top end
to your 2) speed matters not again its the top end
yo your 3) /agree

so Imo high top end and high Str/Crit rating are what im lookin for
