Leveling in WOTLK through instances only?

It's possible, but I'd imagine it would get repetative and you won't get alot of backstory before going into the instances, which makes them less fun. I like getting the full story in an area, the backstory building up as you quest and heading towards an encounter in a dungeon where it comes to it's conclusion. Makes it more satisfying killing someone for a reason, rather than just loot.

Also, when you reach 80, the lower level quests will be so easy that they'll bore you to tears.

I will lvl throw instances but will also do little amount quest when there aint a group running

I certainly hope so - cos that's how I'm planning on levelling my holy priest through to 80.

I'll probably do a few quests with him - but only to get the quests that lead to 'kill instance boss' quests.

My hunter will be levelled up through questing.

Now, if they fix it so that you can lvl up through pvp, then that'll be how I lvl up my warlock. Meaning that I shouldn't have too much repetition between my main 3 guys while levelling up to 80...

Leveling thru quest has been proven to be quicker. Plus you do get more gear thru questing then depending on drops etc. You also have to think about reputation gained to get the reputation items, enchants etc.

I leveled my 3rd toon thru quest in 6 days played, every zone in Hellfire I would run all the instances before I proceeded to the next zone. It was pretty fun and a lot better for my reputation.

Rush to 80, i don't give a fuck about exploring, questing and being various between instances and solo questing, just logout outside an instance and stay here for 1 whole level.
Get back to 80, oneshot every mob and keep going...

This should be in the manual of "How to ruin a leveling session" guides...

Atm in BC I do a mixture of the both.

On my shaman i'm level 66 and i've just started in terrokar.

I'll probably end up having Netherstorm/ShadowmoonValley + One more (BEM/Nag), depending on where I go.

I do all the quests available in the zone, and try get a whole level with just instances.

If I ever become un-rested. I log out at an inn, and continue the next morning.
Best way, and it works a charm.

I'll be getting lots of gold, then hopefully collecting more in WOTLK, for a epic flying mount - I won't bother with a normal one since there not usable till level 77 or something. (:

For a few months, 4 other guildies and myself have a set 5 man group.  Resto druid, 2 mages, ret pally and prot pallay (i'm the ret >.>).

We are going to ONLY level in instances and our goal is to have lvl 80 in under 78 hours. First time in a long time i'll stay up that late. Think the last time i did was for BC or relay for life, some cancer walk thing.

I think its the best way if you want to experience high end content quickly. You can hit 80, go back and do quests for uber gold. While doing instances, everyone will get the best of the best gear while leveling (not much for our group, 8/8 T6 mostly) and so forth. I'm really excited!

Sure its possible, that is how I pretty much leveled my holy pally from level 30 - 60. Killing things as holy takes far too much time and I had amazing gear as I was leveling, from 60 - 70 I was pretty much power leveled cause I tagged along while a friend was power leveling another friend.

As for WoTLK, on my hunter I will do a mixture of both. Instance grind while I have the group to do so and quest when I don't. That way I am not replacing epics with greens and I can still earn rep and gold. As for my pally, I will probably instance grind up, still takes too long to kill things as holy, and maybe a quest line here and there to get the quests to kill the instance bosses or group up with the other alts in the guild and burn through the quests with them.

I suggest do quests, as much as you can. When you get bored go and do some 5 man.
Blizz like to drop some extra stuff to rep vendors, Its nice to be exalted with factions. Better do it when you lvling not when you 80, and should focus on pvp or 10 or 25man.

I have heard that many of the WotLK instances consists of only a few trash mob groups between the bosses, so exp gained by doing them again should be yield only a little bit exp each time. Of course, I don't have exact numbers, so my guess can be completely off.

I had 2 or 3 ppl in my guild that only lvl by running 5 mans, and i pasted them in lvls with both my alts, by skipping all 5 mans till 70, and only doing quests. Even b4 the nerfs i think it was faster to quest for exp.

I will be on a PvP server so most likely I will get frustrated with all of the ganking that will happen(I have poor PvP gear and will be leveling as a holy priest) and I'm sure there will be tons of people doing instances so it would be pretty easy to find a group. Now, whether that group will end up being a bunch of noobs and wasting your time that is hard to say. Find some friends to instance with imo.

In TBC (at least with my alt) i ran instances till i hit the honor cap for that faction then went back and did quests... this made leveling decent, enjoyable, had good gear, and when i hit 70 i had little rep grinding left to do in instances

Gaining 1.5million xp on instance mob kills to level versus turning in quests at 20k a pop sounds a bit like self torture to me. I believe that both instance grinding and questing should be about equal but currently questing blows the effing crap out of raw instance grinding. The disparity is even larger if you are able to continue questing with rested xp versus burning out and grinding instance mobs on normal.

I personally plan on doing one instance per play session and questing with the rest of my time. I probably won't be first to 80 for my class/faction on my realm but at least I'll have experienced the game as I leveled. Besides if I hit 80 towards the middle of the first wave then I'll have more people to play with and the game will be playable (360degree cleaves anyone?)

I wonder what will happen if a group of 5 people stay in the "old world" (=BC content) and do the lvl 70 dungeons till lvl 73 or so. Expect the fact this way of leveling must be really annoying, what would you say: is it faster or not? (I won't level like this )

Ppl will lvl past you at a much higher rate because they will have no down time, like you when your lfg.

In responce to this post, you could only DREAM of getting from 70 to 80 in 78 hours, i can see you getting to like 72-73 fast because of rested xp. If your in like t6/sunwell loot that wont be replaced and right off the bat your going to blow threw the 71-74 lvl instances you'll level hella fast. But assuming your not, instance lvling is slow and can get rather manotinous.

If you are pushing it, both questing and instancing can offer very good XP/hr. I've seen as high as 150k/hr while questing and 130k/hr while instancing (both rested). However, keep in mind that there will be A LOT of people trying to level, which means A LOT of people competing for quest mobs. This will likely lead to instancing being faster. And hell, I doubt it will be hard to find a group for an instance. Another advantage will be rep. Imagine getting Honored with Honor Hold/Thrallmar before ever doing a quest in Hellfire. Imagine how much easier the Exalted rep grind would be. Same thing with WotLK...
