IMO the change will be lvl 80.Originally Posted by Powell
It's doubtful that tank threat is going to scale proportionally with the ridiculous tps numbers we're getting in live right now, otherwise we're talking about zero threat constraint in the 80 endgame.

Bloodboil sucked for this very reason.
We used to put a healer shaman in the tank group to pop heroism and str of earth totem/grace of air totem for the first 30 or so seconds so our melee group could go all out.
Gorefiend being a demon I usually did 1900+dps pre-patch, and pre-patch that was a lot of threat especially considering the amount of extra damage from exorcism. not to mention windfury/crits doing so much threat.
Fights vary. Sometimes HoS is useful.
I've got a macro set up to cast HoS on myself when DPSing 25-mans. On a fight like Kil'Jaeden I'll get close to the tank's threat and then use it. That's because the hunters are usually busy MDing the adds onto the OT and not MDing the tank to help boost his agro.
It's situationally helpful on other fights when the raid leader calls out for an HoS on someone who's too high on the agro list.
I do not like the change because it hurts "warlock tanks" in the encounters they are used in. Warlocks need a much higher threat increase to searing pain or something. In encounters that are just tnak threat based I tend to save this for myself or mages.
I'm sure they still have it. It's better to have ways to control your threat by reducing threat itself, than control your dps output to damp your threat. YOu know what I mean?Originally Posted by Offhand
misdirect is wonderful for pulling. This advantage will never go. You can slam straight into dps with lay trap > misdirect + volley + multishot + whatever > distraction shot to put initial aggro on tank and trap one target. (though, most people won't bother with trapping in AE). But most AE guys love jumping straight into unloading damage. when I play my mage, I played it as if it wears plate...
HoS has its use. It's an emergency button. YOu don't want to use it often, that's why there's a long CD on it. But on the flip side, it helps burst class with their dps through higher suvivability. It's much better to have ways to c
I like using it if I want to start a fight cranking out max dps. I found it pretty good on alot of raid fights that had agro wipes, allowed me to keep cranking out maximum dps using trinkets and AW while not worrying about threat.
Here's my user friendly signature...enjoy.
I understand your examples but they are minimal, not required. I'm putting out 25% more threat than any of the dps I raid with so there is currently no *required* reason to use these abilities, they do make some things smoother however.Originally Posted by yiptastic
As a Maintank, I have yet to have to use HoSalv on *anyone*. Yes my ret pally rides my ass on aggro, but then he's pumping out 2300+ dps ( http://wowwebstats.com/gxftkjtnrzs1i?s=51766-105363 ). If he HoSalv's himself, he hasn't said.
Just to re-itterate, if your MTing and your having issues with someone out aggroing you and needing HoSalv regularly, there are one of two things wrong, the gear difference is large enough to be an issue or your not doing something right. Regardless, your DPS should be watching aggro as well.
I can see how some use HoSalv on Bloodboil, but the last few times we ran BT I solo-tanked the fight. (I get up to around 12-15 debuffs before the first enrage, bubble out during enrage, then finish him off before the 3rd. Easy fight now.
If their threat nears a tank's, they have 2 options.Regardless, your DPS should be watching aggro as well.
(1) Slow down or completely stop doing damage.
(2) Recieve Hand of Salv so they can continue or even increase their damage.
If you fail to understand why (2) is incredibly better than (1), then you just disqualified yourself from participating in this discussion.
If your DPS needs HoSalv, your tank isn't doing thier job correctly. My tps on the WWS I linked was approx 3500. Other than the ret pally, none of the other classes were even close to out aggroing me. Even the ret pally was only getting close and he was at about 90% of my aggro. And this was the KJ fight where everyone is burning quick to get through to the next phase start.
So I'll re-itterate. If your DPS needs HoSalv, then something is wrong.
Yes it is a good Oh Frak ability, but not something to be used all the time.
And, Mr 1 post Troll, when you can say you've been DPSing end-game with full T6 and pushing all you've got to eek out the last bit of DPS you can, you learn to watch your aggro rate and adjust accordingly, cause HoSalv won't help you one bit if your a smear on the floor cause you *expected* to be HoSalved all the time.
HoS is a tool to be used on those without a personal threat dump.
Protection paladin threat is just so outrageous it doesn't get used that much. It's a bit more viable with a warrior tank.
I find it also more as a self buff, with my amazing burst damage on most raid bosses i usually pop it evertime its up to give myself a safe cushion away from the tanks threat.

It's for holy paladins, not tankadins.

HoSalv is a minor tool in the paladin utility kit. Any paladin (prot, holy, or ret) in group or raid can glance at Omen, notice someone is close to pulling aggro and give them a HoSalv, then return to whatever their job is. It doesn't have to be used on yourself.
It's our active threat reduction tool and, as far as I can think of at the moment, the only active threat reduction tool that can be used on someone else.
It's a fine ability. Like all of our Hands, its usefulness is situational (unless you've been raiding with Arms warriors lately...)
