What is the best boomkin leveling rotation for killing single mobs?

I'm currently starting out with a starfire, then moonfire, then entangling if they're big and scary, and just spamming starfire for max mana efficiency. Does anybody else have a better combo then this? should I use IS? is there a faster combo?

    thanks!

Re: What is the best boomkin leveling rotation for killing single mobs?

I start with a Starfire, pray to Elune that it crits and eats 7k HP up, then eclipse procs and I hit Wrath and the mob is dead. If Starfire doesn't crit I still just switch to Wrath as the short casting time make it easier to get off. Within 2-3 Wraths the mob is dead.

There is no real point in using DoTs on single target DPS while leveling. However I have thrown up an IS or MF and tagged a bunch of mobs then hit treants/starfall/barkskin/Hurricane and hope I kill them before I die ;D

For Elites I will start with a starfire (unless I can use root, then I root first) and try and get a second starfire off before the mob gets to me for an eclipse proc, if it procs off the first starfire I switch to wrath spam immediately. I usually save barkskin for a quick Regrowth/Hot time if the elite is doing enough dmg to kill me before it dies. I don't think I have found any Elites that are immune to typhoon, while a lot of them are immune to roots, so typhoon then heal is pretty nice as well.

I do have mana issues sometimes, but luckily I have a lot of pots stored up so I use them liberally. I also have been using my drums of restoration I had saved up a lot so I don't have to stop to eat/drink. The stuff is pretty useless at 80 so might as well get use out of it while I can.

P.S. Owlkin frenzy while leveling = win

    My build:
    http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=0xGbuqIsIdhAuRu

I use glyph of moonfire and insect swarm.

    Single non elite mobs:
Do you really need a rotation? Most efficient is starfire / moonfire / insect swarm -> next target.

    Group non elite mobs:
MF / IS about 5-10 mobs, then starfall & typhoon.

    Elite mobs:
Nature's grasp -> Starfire -> Moonfire -> Wrath -> Insect swarm -> (Mob come to you, hits you once and gets entangled) run away -> Starfire -> wrath (to break roots) -> refresh moonfire as it comes to you -> typhoon -> Force of nature -> Barkskin & finish it off with eclipse rotation while under barkskin

Most of the time, the elite mob will be near death by the time I get to force of nature.

For reference, level 72 @ 1100 spell power and the said glyphs, my moonfire tics does 650-700 damage for the 3sec tick; while insect swarm does about ~400 per every 2 sec tick.

Personally I find the most efficient for me is Starfire, Starfire, Wrath, Wrath. If any of them crit then the last wrath shouldn't be necessary. If the first two crit, then the last two aren't necessary.

I find that Moonfire and Insect Swarm are useful if you want to root a mob and let it die on its own (ie, in a low spawn rate area you can have one sitting there while you tag others), but otherwise there's just no point. I also find I can't just leave multiple mobs hitting me without having to heal too much leading to downtime.

    Agreed.

If they are melee I tend towards Starfire root starfire wrath to kill.

If they are casters i tend to Starfire to 1-2k HP and then wrath.

What REALLY bugs me, is when they are on 100 HP. Seems such a waste of mana finishing them off. To the extent I have tended to leave it to thorns Vs melee.

well i 5-box boomkin so i basically just starfire 1-shot everything. or wrath-moonfire which uses more mana, but generally kills quicker. or i pop starfall x5 and 15 trees, then watch as everything in 30 yards gets obliterated, using typhoon/moonfire to clean up as necessary.

    I am just imagining,

5 consecutive starfalls pulling all the mobs, 5 hurricanes. I reckon no mob would live longer than 2 seconds + typhoon.

Hell, you could grind elites that way. >_>

Yeah, same, but there's not much else you can do from 100 HP as typically they'll swing before Wrath would finish anyway. What's worse is 400-600 HP as that still seems like a waste of a wrath (typically does 1600+ dmg for me) yet it'll take 3+ hits for Thorns to finish em off which will lead to having to heal. Often it just frustrates me that so I decide to Moonfire, which is of course even worse than a wrath for mana, but it's very satisfying to finish off that bastard mob who decided to survive like that.

On a normal mob i go like: Starfire -> Wrath -> Wrath

On a elite mob (rootable): Starfire -> Moonfire -> Root -> Treants -> Starfall -> Starfire until Wrath procs -> Dead

i haven't played much in wrath, but so i've just gone with moonfire pull for the 3% extra crit on starfire and then starfire twice max...most of the time i just pull and oneshot it...and it doesn't seem like there's alot of problems in aoe'ing too, i'm aoe'ing almost as good as my main hunter which has alot better gear...just pop out of boomkin, throw reju+lifebloom, pop back in boomkin, no downtime whatso ever...but then again, i'm going with an infinite mana specc to mimnimize downtime to a max...errr, min...

Seriously, imagine you're 5 years old, playing with Legos in your room, and dad comes in and slaps you around a little bit and tells you that you're grounded. What do you learn from the experience? Just that dad is an asshole.

    Don't be an asshole, dad.

Re: What is the best boomkin leveling rotation for killing single mobs?

i got s2 and some additional hiogher season items, i do starfire, wrath, if survived, wrath again. maybe an other wrath if no crit so far. thats about 3+1.5+.15 =6 secounds per mob 3 of them where the mob is aware of my presence, roots = 1.5 cast time, dont do it, if he melees u, tank it, enrage. glph + skill makes u about imune to interrupts. if eclipse procs, use it. use treants on cd, they are very fucking mighty. treants in a grp of mobs, typhoon, barkskin, hurricane, and u just ae'd 10 mobs in about 15 sec. maybe use starfall if there is room.

edit: roots moonfire swarm is about 4 sec, i guess thats to much. its 6 to 7.5 secs that most moonkins (i got only 850 spelldmg) kill a mob. i guess even if its not as fast as i would wish myself, starfire wrath wrath wrath is the way to go.

Re: What is the best boomkin leveling rotation for killing single mobs?

when i lvled up to 80...
    I used moonfire and Wrath...

entagle the ones I didnt dps on if i got more then one..

and now at 80 my moonfire ticks for 1k fully buffed

so they go down rather fast with moonfire and wrath

Re: What is the best boomkin leveling rotation for killing single mobs?

If I just use 3 starfires the mobs usually die before they reach me, often 2 starfires and a wrath is plenty though. I don't get why people mention downtime though, haven't had to drink while levelling yet and that includes aoe pulls.

I can't see what you should use roots for, its really not usefull at lvling - at pvp its diffrent tho.

Ever tried solo'ing the wanted quests without roots?
If they can be rooted, they can be solo'd with ease. If they can't be rooted it's pretty damn hard.
So yes, roots does have it's use in PvE.

Re: What is the best boomkin leveling rotation for killing single mobs?

Currently level 73, gone for this build http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=0xGbuicoIdhV0RhZMxcu , I've taken all the manaregen talents to minimize downtime. Havent had to drink yet, usually vendor the water I get from mobs.

Anyways, the mobs I'm killing have about 9,6k health, so I pull with a starfire, hope it crits, if not then I put on an IS, then 1-2wraths.
I use IS because it was very annoying to see mobs with 4-500 health left, plus it's more manaeffective than MF.

Most elites so far have about 27k health, so I SF, root, MF, IS then send treants, SF and root till dead.

My gear is brutal because I just switched from feral so I only have about 700 spell power.

I have an opener macro, /cast Insect Swarm
    /use 13
    /use14

Hit star and then wrath until dead. Even with the crappy gear it seems to work well, I might if its a higher level than me hit MF after opener.

Rotation? For solo questing/grinding? Faceroll on a couple buttons.

Open with a cast time spell. That's rule #1 for any caster.

    /cast Starfire
    /use 13
    /use14
