What is your DPS rotation? to max out dps

    hey,
im always wondering how to max. our dps as spriest.

somewhat new in playing shadow spec , been healing a lot in PRE-Wrath.

my rotation is , (raid encounters)

VT + SW:P + VE + MB + MF + DP / (if theres no lag and i can use every single GCD) ill ad SW at the end

    then back to rotation

    VT + MB + MF + MF + MB . etc etc

i made sure i let VT tick till the last second
started casting VT again when the debuff is around 0.9ish left and continue the rotation.

getting around 2500dps (2800 with BL) in 10 man raid encounters no ele shammie, moonkin aura, arcane mage buff.
    no mana issues

    2002 spell power self-buffed
hit capped - got different equips if not showed on armory
    13.94% crit
    216 haste

sorry for my bad english ><

please correct me if theres anything i could change or do in my rotation?

Shadowpriests do not have a spellrotation, we have a spell prioritizing.

And that goes like this (most important in the top):

    Vampiric Touch
    Devouring Plague
    Shadow Word: Pain
    Mind Blast
    Mind Flay
    Shadow Word: Death

A note for the entry casting: You want 5 stacks of Shadow Weaving before you cast SW:P (which you refresh with Mind Flay), thus you wish to start like this:

    VT > Dev. Plague > Mind Blast > SW > SW:P

And then you can do a Mind Flay, and then a Mind Blast (depending on your amount of spellhaste) before you have to refresh VT.

VT is the best scaling spell, thus the biggest dps loss if not kept up 100% of the time. We're talking 2-400 dps easily lost if not kept up perfectly.

I typically MB and SW before using my first DP. I might just be a bit off in the head, but it seems like DP will benefit more from a few extra stacks of SW than your opening MB or SW.

For me it's more about getting it off cooldown as fast as possible.

im not a theorycrafter but would it better to start off MB SW VT DP? just to get the benefits of 3 stacks of shadow weaving.

meh... u should know that death stacks 2 weavings.... so:

    Death->vt->mb(for replenish)->dp->pain....

Starting with pain u wont loose that much on ur first VT and DP.

The reason you don't start with SW and MB is because of threat.

Re: What is your DPS rotation? to max out dps

To me it is obvious that we should start with SWP... we've got at least 2 different talents that make SWP our best Spell Power bonus! (Misery and Twisted Faith)
With just Twisted Faith, having SWP is equivalent to 5 stacks of Shadow Weaving...

I do agree with Nezoia when he says we have spell priorities rather than a spell rotation, but I really don't understand why we should wait for up to 5 stacks of SW before we cast SWP !!

I start like this: SWP > VT > MB (to launch replenishment) > DV (not always, still not sure the spell is worth the mana.. open for advice on that!) > SWD > MF

Then my priorities for spells are :
of course SWP if during the encounter it had time to vanish
    VT
    MB
    SWD
    DP (same commentary as above)

    Vampiric Touch
    Shadow Word: Pain
    Vampiric Embrace
    Devouring Plague
    Mind Blast
    Mind Flay
    Mind Blast
    (Then start over)

Skiping Shadow word pain since that is automaticly being refreshed

but I really don't understand why we should wait for up to 5 stacks of SW before we cast SWP !!
Because when SW:P is refreshed with MF it, it do 10% more damage if there was 5 stacks up at the initial cast.

MF refreshing of SW:P don't check buffs (trinket, shadowweaving). Only the initial cast do.

@shadeslayor: Epic fail inital cast rotation, read what I just wrote.

I went shadow from disc yesterday to fill a dps slot in an heroic for guild. (will go back to discipline)

these are my stats: (in discipline set)

    1611 spellpower
    10.47%crit
    29hit

my rotation was something like this VT>sw>dev.p>mindblast>sw:death>mindflay 2x>VT...

and i was doing 1700ish dps.

but must agree the the above poster, my rotation is a bit off when it comes to casting swain. better to have five stacks of shadowweaving.

I cannot see if it's meant as a joke, but pulling off a 8k crit with SW the second the tank pulls with his gun / faerie fire, and you'll get pretty fucking owned

Re: What is your DPS rotation? to max out dps

well if u do it the second he tank makes a moove u can blame urself. but in a raid i can death as soon as the tank is close the whatever he is tanking. so it aint a problem. unless ur tank sucks...

I would still not do it, and benefit the raid more by getting replenishment up faster.

Who knows, your tank might miss first attack, and then you just wiped the raid/group.

Re: What is your DPS rotation? to max out dps

dont knock it before u tried it.... repelenishent starts 1.5secs later. not a biggy. how can u say no to 2 instant weaving stacks?

The op question is how to max dps... and this is how u max ur dps.

That's why I start each fight with VE. Then SW. Gives the tank a GCD time to catch aggro and I give the group a little bit of health regen from the start, plus I don't take much damage from SW.
