Regardless, as I said it was probably intended as much as an artificial obstacle to slow early progress. People who wanted the skill, or the enchants, or in the case of JC the crafted items early paid a premium. Nature of the game. Heck even the server first 450 chefs had to pay top gold to get that far, and deal with the same sort of artificial obstacle in the form of the northrend spice.
