The correct answer was over nine thousand.
You are the weakest link, goodbye!

But really I agree with the above people asking "for what?".

    Stupid question is stupid.

It all depends on gear, level... professions, buffed or unbuffed stuff like that.

I have 3816, but that is with JC gems.

Alot of people will have 3,400-3,500 on average but once again it all depends.

Also since you need to ask i feel the need to tell you... GEM for STR never AP.

    3000+ is decent.

I'm aiming for 3750 once I get a new chant and switch mining for JC

I'd like to remind you that I only do 6-7,000dps on loatheb, that's with 99%+ crit.

    ;D

Crit doesn't scale that well my friend.

How much AP should a ret paladin have?

General rule of a thumb is: More, more and MORE!!!... As long as it comes from Strenght.

A student asks the master "How much AP should a ret paladin have as a minimum?"
And the master replies "for what?"

Are the numbers being mentioned in this thread without Blessing of Might on? (yes I know I'm a noob.)

Re: How much AP should a ret paladin have?

As has been mentioned there is no "should have" AP number.
More is better, there is no cap.
AP will come with the STR on your gear. What you need to know is that your primary stat is STR. As long as you're stacking +STR equipment/gems you're on the right track. STR will item budget point for item budget point yield more AP than the raw AP stat on its own.
Crit is not more important than STR, but is still very important to a point. I would aim for around 30-35% ish. More is better, but I would not focus on crit rather than STR as long as I had at least 25% (at least for PvE, crit may be worth more for PvP). What you need further comes with the gear upgrades naturally.

I don't know what you are all about, but a decent retri pally should have around 4.5k AP with Imp BoM that is.

fakh thats not a ( decent ret ) thats a wtf geared ret. im missing all but 3 best in slots and im at 3600 ap with out might and 4250 with it. i would say an avrage ret will have around 4k with might and 3.2k-3.5k without might.

you can "never" have enough attack power.
as long as you dun sacrifice too much Crit/Hit/Expertise etc., AP will be your best friend.
I'm @3680 AP atm. it still feels like its not enough.

im curious how you get so much. can you link armory?
possible with +110 AP instead of Berserker and two AP increasing professions, and/or Bandits Insigna + Greatness.

Actually, with all that stuff, even 3900-4000 base AP is possible.

This sounds about reasonable. With the 15% increased strength talent it's easier to get higher AP numbers than other Melee classes. (That's not DK QQ btw, i got easy mode remember)

Re: How much AP should a ret paladin have?

As posted elsewhere, you can never have enough, never.

    I got 3623ap unbuffed

Add Fury of the Five Fights + Beserking + Greatness and the regular raid buffs ofc
