My main spec is Ret, but I spec Prot as an offspec for fun sometimes. I've mostly just gotten spare set pieces, and just ended up with lots of block value items form what our actual tanks didn't need.

Unbuffed:
Defence: 549
Dodge: 21.26%
Parry: 17.70%
Block Rating: 25.78%
Block Value: 1590

Still stuck with a crap blue pair of bracers so im at 27.9K HP unbuffed. They are unenchanted so getting either the badge/H-Raz bracers and getting them 40 stam should put me at about 28.8K unbuffed. With holy Shield up, avoidance is at about 104.1, a little over, but oh well, you get what you get when its an offspec :P

(It's worth noting that with this setup I'm only over block cap with raid buffs)

Block cap is the point at which the worst result you can get on the combat table is a block. i.e. you've pushed all regular hits off the table. This is when you have reached 102.4%, which used to be the Uncrushable point as well.

-19,87% Parry
-15,23% Block
- 980 Block Value

I went for a very heavy dodge set, picking some parry stuff up along the way. The overall damage I take is far lower than a Block/Block Value heavy set, but I am a bit more unpredictable to heal 8)

In my only set of Gear, lol...

- 21% dodge 23% with my badge trinket(replaced for essence currently for testing)
- 16% parry(Really want to up this by another 3% personally)
- 18% block
- about 950-980 block value(To low for my own standards =/ )

I'm gonna throw this phrase out there for you guys, remember it;
Block Value is a biproduct of Block Rating.

What that means, is that you can have all the Block Rating in the world, but without BV, it's useless. However, it works the other way too; You can have all the Block Value in the world, but without Block Rating, it's useless.

My current stats;
10.6% miss (base 5% + 5.6% from defense, i'm bang on 540 defense)
20.53% Dodge
19.13% Parry
23.29% Block
~1407 Block Value (EU Maintenance at the moment, but it's about that unbuffed. Fully raid buffed with procs and such up, i've seen it in the 2600 area [including Libram + Lavanthor's Talisman procs]).

540 def = +4.28 to miss. If youre 540 def you have 9.23% chance to be missed not 10.6%.

Therefor youre not block capped unless you have a ontheball druid/hunter.

You're at 102.23%.

There's a 5% base miss rate; I have ~5.4% miss from items post-DR iirc.

To get 5.4% miss from items you need 960 defense rating.

How is this right?

I agree on the block value, and this is my current dilemma that I have with the gear that's available. I try to wear as much BV gear without going overboard with BR.

My stats:

Dodge: 23.62%
Parry: 19.03%
Block Rating: 19.98%
Block Value: 1360
Miss Chance: 11.63% (5% miss and 6.63% from Defense Rating)

Again in order to get 6.33% miss from dr, you would need 1235 @ 80.

How are you guys calculating this?

People are calculating it using their paper doll stats. I don't know where you're getting your numbers from, Quest, but they're off.

Your paperdoll is calculated before diminishing returns. If youre adding from that youre not getting real results.

Yeah they are. Look at the paper doll miss rating on my toon. 6% @ 550 Def. that is well under the 1100 def rating or whatever it was you were talking about.

Its actually 4.5% @ 738 def @ lvl 80.

Youre @ 102.83% so you dont need to care anyway.

Where are you pulling these numbers from?

I added up my stats from the paper doll and ended up with 104.33% avoidance.
I ran your macro script and came up with 102.84% avoidance.


The difference is 1.5%. A significant margin, but I don't know if it's as significant as you're coming up with.

Not sure what you're BV is but you could get like 2k health easy from getting rid of some of the block gear. I hope Blizzard doesnt see that armory they might try and nerf block rating! 10% of it isnt doing anything.. and when redoubt hits youre 42%(!!!) over block cap. LOL
