In light of the amazing melee performance for downing sarth and ignoring the other drakes, whats a stout caster group to do the same thing?

Just make sure you bring an Elemental Shaman.
Given the length of the fight i'd say stack a few Arane Mages
prot pally, resto sham, moonkin, arcane mage, ff mage, destro lock (replenishment), aff lock, ele sham, +2 others.
I think the reason why they used a ton of plate is because they didn't have to worry about the adds killing ppl, everyone just aoe zerged em while killing the boss.
you are talking about after Ulduar hit then? cuz destro locks don't give replenish atm, they will in patch 3.1Originally Posted by Mica
atm I would say:
DK/Prot pala tank
Feral druid
Resto shaman
Ele Shaman
Destro Lock (imp)
FF mage
Affli Lock (improved curse)
3 random High dpsers (3 Arc Mages r so)
To be honest, a caster group could probably do it faster with decent luck on flame walls.
Unholy DK Tank
Healer
Shadow Priest
Ele Shaman
Fire Mage
Arcane Mage x5
This entails nearly full caster synergy: Replenisment, 13% magic debuff, 5% spell haste, 3% spell hit debuff, 5% spell crit buff, 10% spell crit debuff, 3% all crit debuff, and the best spellpower buff available atm. The only thing missing is the 3% all haste buff that ret pallies and moonkins provide. The mages can also buff each other with Focus Magic in a circular fashion so that each gains 6% additional crit.
It also stacks basically the highest DPS short-duration burst spec in WoW in the Arcane Mage. You might need another tank to pull off the enraged drake though or pick up fire adds.
I say they could do it faster because while the average dps of the melee group was upwards of 5k, Arcane mages on Patchwerk speed kills (think 1:30) hit 7k or higher.

Yea, like stated above the reason the melee group was so successful was the 4 whirl winds going off, dealing with the adds. Caster group would be possible but would need abit of work.

Sartharion has Edit: 3,137,625 HP (10 man +25%hp buff) so the raid would need an avg dps of 41,835 to kill him before Shadron lands and pops the acolyte:
Tank - 1700 (new raid dmg - 40,135)
40,135 / 8 = 5017 dps each
Edit: After adjusting for the 25% health buff, I don't think a caster group would be able to handle the drakes and adds and still do enough overall raidwide dps to sarth in current gear, maybe in 3.1 after BiS gear from Ulduar. However, if someone tries this, might wana have a hunter in there to misdirect tenebron to the tank. Anyone know what a caster group would do with the adds? Are they cc'able?
I wouldn't suggest bringing an Affliction Warlock, being one myself. :F
Moonkins give the same buff, and anyone knows Warlock DPS doesn't rise to the top until like 2-3 minutes to the fight, thus making it unwieldy for a short nukage encounter like that.
wrong, with 3drakes up he has 25% more HP.Originally Posted by Mica
Really, when I think about it more, I just don't see a caster group handling the drakes and the adds and still doing enough total raid dps to sartharion to beat the encounter before shadron gets his acolyte up.
How much time from when sarth is pulled until shadron comes down? I assume it is more than 76 seconds. I am going to put together a stellar group for this tonight and I'll let you all know how it goes. I see no reason that casters couldn't do it either.

It is 85 seconds until shadron's immunity shield hits sarth. That is your "enrage".Originally Posted by Whole
2 problems here. 1st...Lack of a moonkin for crit bonus, haste bonus from moonkin form and Earth & Moon.Originally Posted by malfeas
2nd and even more pressing is lack of a 2nd tank. The 2nd tank is needed to kite tenebron away from the raid to avoid the crazy enrage on the drakes.
I don't even think synergy is too much of an issue as it probably more about getting the best dpsers in your guild.
Just did this strat with a caster heavy group ,  the setup we used was:
1 Warrior tank
1 Paladin healer (me)
1 Ele shaman
1 Warlock
1 unholy DK
1 moonkin
3 mages (1 arcane and 2 FF i think)
1 Hunter
Wen't pretty smooth and didn't have allot of trouble.
as for the adds i just had beacon on myself and was spamming the warrior so i outhealed the damage they gave me and used bubble at the end. /giggle
Also the drakes despawned after sarth died so I'm asuming that blizz hotfixed it that they stay alive >_>
Shaman provides EO, DK is providing 13% magic damage.... They don't stack :POriginally Posted by anyaka21
@Rozaro - Gz on the kill but did you get any loot/achievement? Or was it a "fail-kill"?
This was done the other day in 73 seconds.

Most definatly don't need stacking for this. That group did have all the melee debuffs though.
Obviously, the news has spread that you can just zerg Sarth 3D made popular by some Russian guild that brought 4 Fury Warriors. Well, we didn't need 4 Fury Warriors. We just needed 2 trial raiders (both which had not done the encounter), 2 social members, an Alt, and the will of Ddaddy to make it happen. I'm glad that I could provide healthstones and a Soulstone to this hilarious group. Awesome job guys. A good time was had by all.
