Remember when raiding made you look unique?

I really miss AFKing on the Org bank roof in T6.
Everyone would see that I'm wearing T6 and think 'Wow, he must be good at WoW.'
I'd usually get multiple /tell's from people saying 'Hey, nice gear' over the course of the day.

I remember before I started raiding, seeing people walking around in really cool looking gear and asking where they got it inspired me to join a raiding guild and progress as much as I could.

Right now, everyone looks the same. It really sucks.
The bad Druid who wipes on Kel'Thuzad with PUGs for hours every week looks the exact same as that one Druid from vodka or Exodus or some other top guild; you can't tell the difference between them by looks.
Given a month or two, everyone level 80 and their dogs will had had T8 handed to them on a silver platter; for most classes, the four piece bonus makes four pieces of T8 best in slot. And then there's the massive number of people who currently wear 5/5 Valorous or Heroes just because they don't know how to gear their class properly. Either way, there won't be/isn't loot from hard modes to replace it and make you actually look like someone who's done hard modes.
There won't be anything to distinguish the hardcore raider whose done all hard modes from someone who spends 20 hours clearing Ulduar 10 every week.
    It's really kind of disappointing.

Obviously there are still titles, but they're really lackluster compared to having cool/unique visuals.

You sound like my grandparents... "ohh I remember back then when the trees were much greener and everything were better".
The fact is that ppl tend to remember only the good things about the past. If you really think about it i bet youll get to the point where you realise how nice WoW is now compared to back then.

Titles are annoying, makes peoples names long, which is why I have disabled showing the titles and guild names of people :-p
Deja Moo - The feeling you've heard this bullshit before.
It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Then its fun and games but you can't see.

Not everything is a consequence of the coloured glasses of nostalgia.. :P Fact is a lot of cities are smoggier now than before, trees very well may have been "greener".

More on topic, to the OP: What you're describing, the idea that there is a significant amount of stuff in the game which is for the elite only, is something Blizz has declared war on. It's an extremely inefficient use of some of their most expensive resources: artists.

The unfortunate reality is that there isn't a very good middle ground, here. My hope is that they manage to push away from this in at least one direction.. Weapons would be a good choice, imo. Have some model/art reserved just for the top-end guilds.

Proto-drakes are a nice touch, and I'm looking forward to getting the new meta drakes, but.. Well, I guess a bit I just agree with the OP. When you work hard for something, you want to be proud of it.. Many are playing an MMO for the social aspect, and when there's so little differentiating lazy/bad players from good ones (note: I have nothing whatsoever against casuals), that aspect gets dampened.

Re: Remember when raiding made you look unique?

    Exactly.
The proto-drakes are nice, but you can't fly around Dalaran with them.
Well, actually I can, but I'm sure you see the point.

I'd even be happy with recolors to make good raiders stand out, but I'm a Shadow Priest, so nobody would notice.

Well, you guys realize we're barely a tier and a half into the expansion? Everyone's gonna have T7 gear, T8 will be a little more sparse and so on. Tier 6 was the third tier in BC and required a long line of attunement. Maybe we'll see something similar in Tier 9 (or even 10, if rumors ring true).

Zsuper, it seems like all you really want is attention. In fact, to me it looks like the only reason you did the lvl70 end-game content was to obtain the items that would make people *gasp* at you. If this is really true (and your posts really suggest it is) then don't mind me asking: Why you seek the admiration of your fellow players? Do you really need the attention from others to make you feel good? Can't you enjoy the game without them whispering you, commending you or hanging out around your character?

If the answer is "yes", you may want to get help...

    I like epeening, obviously.
Do you disagree that people who are better than yourself deserve to stand out from yourself as being better?

I'm pretty sure most people thought "wow, so much time spent in this game raiding, and he STILL has enough time to do nothing but standing at the bank"

And by AFKing on the Org bank roof, what I really mean is sitting in front of my computer, watching people gape at my awesome epic loots. Because I'm totally sitting at my computer while AFK.

Or maybe that's not what I really mean and you could learn to read before posting? That would work, too.

    worthless post...

obviously? even full tier 1 was decent to have for every class, and wasn't as LOL as you say it was... Today's casuals can get 5/5 valorious in matter of 3-4 weeks, but how long did it take to complete even t1 pretbc? Everything above, t2, AQ sets, t3 was a sign of a experienced and (usualy) skilled player... Can you say the same about heroes/valorious t7, and soon of t8?

I'm going to disagree with this.

Why does one need to get help because he wants others to admire him for obtaining a rare item?
Admire might be to big of a word, but you get the point.

If you have been raiding the endgame instances in Vanilla and TBC, you know all about those occasional whispers about your gear.
Did you tell those people to piss off? No, you told them "Thanks" or "It's from instance x".

Wether you want to admit it or not; You loved those whispers.

And now you don't have those anymore. Reason to cry about it? I don't think so, but i liked it better the way it was then.

Whether or not you are sitting behind your computer while (pretending to be) AFK, it's clear you only do it for the attention, hence why you would not just log out or be AFK in some deserted building. No, you apparantly want (maybe need?) those whispers to feel good about yourself. The raiding itself? Nothing more than the means to get the gear.

Oh, you would be amazed how many people there are like you, spread over all serves. Just look at Krasus Landing for a few minutes. Some people are flexing their new mount and appear to be very AFK, but as soon as you block their name, character or the most attention-drawing parts of their mounts, they will move away, so everyone can see their mount in all it's glory, maybe giving you an occasional insult for daring to block their awesomeness.

What do you mean then? That you were reading a book but still felt the urge to stay logged on? That you were cooking pasta and came back every few minutes to check you weren't disconnected? That you were watching a movie with your girlfriend but went "sorry dear, just checking if people can still look at me, be right back, mind putting it on pause?". Enlighten me on what "being afk" means to you, but I'm still failing to see how one can not just log off if he does anything else but playing the game.

its funny read that some people flame the poster of the topic for his oppinion on the subject ^^

95% of the playerbase logs in to get epic drops and I agree with the poster that its frustrating to hardly see any difference between someone more dedicated to the game and some cassual player.

Everyone should have access to nice items but some sort of difference should always be there and it would be nice if it was a visual difference ^^

The other day I stood around Ironforge and was /w with a buddy, we decided to put on some T2 stuff for old times sake ^^ We had the most fun but it all wass degraded by one simple /w from some random person I never even saw before. I had my full T2 on and my vanilla mainhand weapon and my (hard obtained) Thunderfurry which took weeks/months to complete back in the day. All he could say was : /w Nice weapon ^^ I farmed mine last month with my deathknight.

Stuff like that makes you simply wonder what the hell is wrong with blizzard!

I have solution for OP. Give me your character name and server, I will make a toon there, log and whisper you every now and then how cool is your gear and how good player you are so you can rub your epeen or tell your mum that you are really good in computer game.
