Hmm..did that change recently / since TBC? Could have sworn we had a pretty lousy ratio.

Oh well, you get the point though (I hope)

im pretty sure we do at a 1:1 ratio, akthiugh str is better at a base 1:2 ratio

agility gives a little more melee crit than plain old crit, but crit provides both spell crit AND melee crit so I would just go with regular crit rating.

BECAUSE SPELL CRIT IS SO IMPORTANT AMIRITE?

Jesus, you guys are killing me.

ALL classes get more melee crit from crit than they do agility.

Edit: As a final note, of the two spells ret paladins actually cast only one is capable of critting, and that one spell only makes up 4-5% of our total damage.

    i wonder...
is judgement scaling with melee crit or spell crit? Enlighten me Adamson =)

    Melee.

Judgement is a range physical attack that does holy damage.

Re: Agi vs. Crit for ret pala?

You need about 15-20% more agility value in order to get the same crit % as you would from crit rating.
umm, no its more like 3% more agi...

45.91 crit rating = 1% chance for a critical strike with all attacks and spells.

52.08 agility = +1% crit chance. With Blessing of Kings the number decreases to 47.35 agility = 1% crit chance. However agi only effects melee crit%(everything but exorcism).

Also because the 21 crit meta requires 2 blue gems to activate it may not be > the 21 agi meta as the dps difference between 21 crit and 21 agi is much less than another +str gem depending on socket bonuses, etc.

Sad that they can't allocate stats well enough on plate that leather gear is superior in a lot of slots in a BIS set.

Calm down, we get that you know your mechanics. I haven't yet seen one person claim spell crit is important. The point is its a bonus that Agility doesn't provide. Thus its a factor. ~0.1 DPS > 0 DPS.

    W/o BoK, that's ~12% less. With BoK, that's ~9% less.

I believe the official EJ definition was that Judgements are: Physical Melee attacks that inflict Holy Damage that have a 10 yd range, can crit and miss, but have been altered so that they cannot be parried, dodged or blocked, and they cannot be used while silienced.

You just cannot find a class with more logical mechanics then a Paladin :P

    OHHHH!!!! You figured it out!!!!

Gemming strength in sockets is the difference between agility and crit!!!!!!

This whole time I thought this thread titled "Agi vs. Crit for ret pala?" was about what gems I should put in what color socket. Thank you for clarifying this for me. I feel so dumb.

Will you autograph my Titansteel Destroyer?

Are you really having to cast that many self heals that it matters . . . ???

    1) Having 2-3% more spell crit across your gear won't make a difference.
    2) If your ret is saving that many lives that often, you need better healers.
    3) Last I checked rets weren't doing much healing through sheath of light or the instant heals in raids.
~90% of your healing will be judgemen of light, and a lot of that is overheals.

For god's sake, don't argue with me that a ret whose job is DPS should gear for crit for the purpose of it affecting his healing capability (which isn't very good to begin with)
