    One Holy Paladin
    One Holy Priest
    One Warlock
    One Resto Shaman
    One Mage
    One Balance Druid
    One Rogue
    One DPS DK

    Detailed Info:

When Clockwork was created, we had two goals in mind: First, we wanted to see everything the game has to offer but not spend a lot of time doing it. Most of our members have jobs to go to, schoolwork to complete, wives/girlfriends to satisfy and other hobbies to enjoy. We understand that all of these things must be brought into balance for us to not only enjoy our life in game but outside of the game as well. Second, we wanted to create an environment where like-minded people could socialize and have fun together.

We have met our initial goals so far; however, like every guild out there we still have room for improvement and are actively looking at new and better ways of doing things.

The type of person we’re looking for..

Clockwork member: An intelligent and analytical player whose purpose is to see end-game content in the shortest amount of time so that he or she can go do other things (and will uphold this ideal as the core belief of the guild). A Clockwork member will show up to raids fully prepared by understanding his or her role and will give 110% effort at all times. This type of person understands that mistakes do happen however they are able to quickly fix their own mistakes and not repeat the mistakes of others. Additionally, a Clockwork member should be willing to put guildies before his or her own self-interests in hopes of bettering the guild. Outside of raids it is expected that this type of person will be generally friendly, social and will attempt to “fit in” with the general populace of the guild.

The majority of the officers have been leading guilds for 8 years in different MMO's. In our years of gaming, we’ve had many successes and likewise many failures. In that time, we’ve also had the privilege of dealing with many personalities and have figured out what works for a guild and what does not. Some people are simply not cut out for teamwork with 24+ other people. I know that many guilds outline these “personalities” and say don’t apply if you are one of them but when we say it we’re serious-you are not going to last and you will be wasting our time and your time and money.

The type of person we’re not looking for...

Overly arrogant: Its OK if you think you’re amazing. It’s even better if you think you are amazing and you’re amazing. However, its not OK if you need to broadcast to the entire world about how amazing you are in order to reassure your amazing-ness. We run raid analysis tools, we’ll know if you’re doing well. You can brag about it sometimes but doing it all the time gets annoying and turns a lot of people against you.

Apathetic/lazy: If you don’t want to raid, you don’t have to. Your motivator should be not to let your friends down so you give 110% during raids instead of just sitting there hoping that the 24 other people will carry you and give you phat loots.

Loot-oriented: Self-explanatory. We’re not here to gear you up. If you want gear, go join a guild that raids 7 days a week for 8 hours. You’ll get plenty of it there and will be able to e-bay much quicker.

Mute: Communication is an essential component of a strong team. As such you should be actively communicating with your teammates. If you don’t ever say a word and if you are not responsive to the inquiries of team leaders, you will not fit in well.

If you have any questions please contact Lazzie or Amiye.

    Re: [PVE-EST]13/14 + Hodir/Thorim Hard Mode Down LF DPS/Healers

Assembled below are some of the common recruitment questions people usually ask. Please look through here before contacting one of us as we may be busy raiding!

    1) What are your raiding hours like?

We raid from 7:30 PM - 11:30 PM (Eastern), Monday through Thursday (so 4 hours, 4 times a week).

    2) Is Clockwork a casual guild?

In terms of raiding hours per week, our schedule is somewhat casual friendly. However, in terms of expectations and requirements during raids, we are a hardcore raiding guild. Every member is expected to know their class details in depth, research of bosses ahead of time is necessary, and 110% effort during raid times is required. So in other words, raiding is serious business here but we keep it as friendly as possible and love to joke around when clearing trash or between bosses (but we are an efficiency-oriented guild so we try to keep the downtime to a minimum).

    3) What is an efficiency-oriented guild?

An efficiency-oriented guild is a guild that tries to maximize the amount of raid content they do in their allotted time for the week. Efficiency usually means clearing trash quickly and effectively, having very quick recovery time between wipes, fast analysis and strategy changes during new encounters, and, of course, weekly optimization of strategy by looking at what we can do better and how we can make things go faster.

    4) What are the gear requirements to join?

    Currently? Naxx 25+

    5) I hate filling out applications. Is it really necessary? Can I talk to you about it in game?

You must fill out an application; and please, take time out to fill it out in detail. We use the application to get a slight insight into your personality and see whether we should take time out to talk to you more. You can message any of us in game to talk about anything you want to talk about, but you must fill out an application. No exceptions!

    6) How does the application process work?

After you fill out an application, either myself or Lazzie (our awesome recruitment guy!) will review your application and then will either send you a PM on these forums or will actually log onto your server and send you an in-game mail if we are interested in proceeding further. At this point we will work out a convenient time for everyone where we can meet on Ventrilo and have a chat (so its important that you have a working mic). The chat will consist of a few officers and some normal members. During the chat we will ask you some general questions, any questions that came up pertaining to your app, give you some additional information about the guild, and answer any questions that you may have. During the entire chat, we will be trying to assess your personality as well.

After the voice chat is concluded, we will ask you to leave the channel at which point we will make a decision on whether you have been accepted or not. After we have made our decision, we will inform you of it at which point you're free to decide whether you want to join the guild or not.

When you are invited to the guild, you will be required to read through our new members guide which will set you up with the required guild mods, the appropriate Ventrilo and forum accounts, and familiarize you with the guild rules.

For the next two weeks, you will be required to maintain near perfect attendance and will most likely be provided with lots of feedback as to how you are doing. If everything goes smoothly, you will become a member at the end of the two weeks. Note that, while being an initiate, you will not be able to bid on loot unless no member wants it.

    7) I want to join but have a couple of friends that will come with me who do not wish to raid. Can they join Clockwork?

We have a casual rank in the guild where friends and family of current members can be invited.

    8) I want to join but have a couple of friends that will come with me who also wish to raid. Can they join Clockwork?

We've usually had bad experiences with groups of more than two friends coming over and joining to raid. However, we are flexible. You will have to put in individual apps. A single application for the entire group will not work.

    9) I can't make raids or will be late on day X. Can I still apply?

Our current optimal attendance requirement is 14/16 days per month. Being late on some days is alright, as long as you give notification that you will be late on such days and make this information available when you are applying to the guild.

    10) What is the age range of players in the guild? What is the minimum age requirement?

Most players in Clockwork are in their mid twenties to early thirties with some outliers of course. You must be 18 or older to join the guild.

    11) What type of humor is common in Clockwork?

Dirty humor. Dry humor. Usually intermingled with a decent amount of profanity and vulgar language. Its all in good fun. If this offends you, please do not join.

    12) What type of loot system does Clockwork use?

We use a zero-sum DKP system with pre-determined values for items based on a custom mod. You can learn more about zero-sum DKP here if you are unfamiliar with it.

    13) Will I have a guaranteed raid spot if I join Clockwork?

The answer to this question is completely dependent on you. If you are a dependable, analytical, quick-to-learn-type of player with a team-oriented personality then you are indeed guaranteed a full time raiding spot. There may be times where certain bosses require certain raid balance and you may have to sit out but with the changes coming in Wrath, this will hopefully become a non-issue if Blizzard does it right. We try to keep a roster size of around thirty players and actively maintain a list of who is sitting out for what so that everyone gets a fair share of raid time.

    14) Your guild has only been around since May 23, 2008. How do I know that your guild is stable and will be around in the future?

This is a rather difficult question to answer but I will try my best . Clockwork's stability comes from the analysis and dissection of years of guild leadership experience. Our officer core has been playing together for a very long time. When we created Clockwork, we looked back at all the years of running guilds and looked at what went wrong and what made our previous guilds sub-par. Some of the things we learned include:

    * Ambiguous, uninformed criticism doesn't work. "Healing sucked" alone doesn't really make your healers heal better. However, having experienced raid leaders along with solid raid performance indicator data does make your players better as does effective communication of what can be done better.
    * Recruitment is a proactive process. It's no shock that players quit the game or change guilds all the time; and, most of the time, they aren't nice enough to give you a two week notice. We learned that it was essential to maintain attendance and performance statistics, as well as look at player-based guild satisfaction, when making recruitment decisions and plan ahead when we feel like we're going to be short on some class, rather than waiting till we lose that class and cannot raid as a result of the loss.
    * Recruitment for progression alone does not work. We learned that, while recruiting totally bad ass, super geared, amazing players who think they are God's gift to WoW might work for a couple of months, in the long term its just a powderkeg waiting to explode. During a raid, we must manage 25+ personalities, and personalities that aren't malleable to teamwork simply will not work no matter how amazing the player is. Nowdays, we look at the player's personality first and all the other game-related stuff second.
    * Raiding ridiculous hours does not yield results. Instead, it causes people to burn out. It also causes nonsensical in-fighting and pointless drama. As such we keep our raiding hours to a minimum, rarely go over 10 minutes past raid time and never intend on changing our current raid schedule.
    * The life of a guild is cyclical (much like real life). Sometimes you will have great times where you are downing bosses like nothing and having the time of your life. Sometimes you will wipe for days with no progress, people will be quitting left and right, and it will feel like the sky is falling. It is important to maintain perspective both during the highs and the lows and know that when you're down you will be up eventually and when you're up you will be down much sooner .

I hope that wall of text provides some insight into why we feel Clockwork is stable. You're welcome to talk to me more about it as I find the lifecycle of guilds a fascinating topic.

    15) How do you deal with drama?

We try to talk to the parties involved and bring control to the situation at hand. Most of the time this works rather well as we're experienced with dealing with a variety of drama situations. However, if we have a very emotionally unstable person who somehow managed to get through the application process, we are left with no choice and will remove that person. We will not sacrifice the enjoyment of the rest of the guild because of one person's inability to be a member of a team.

If you have any further questions that have not been answered in this FAQ, feel free to message Amiye or Lazzie
