Can you tell in advance if a pug will fail ?

Just an idea, but i'd like to share some basic questions i ask myself before going in a pug
say hello. are people replying? silence is a bad sign. <-- most important

    (25 man)
    - shift click the LFM toon. is he from a (even remotely) known guild? if not, don't join.
    - Ask "what do we need?". if no reply, leave
    (Heroics)
    - If you care about the loot, check the leader's guild.
    - Check that the tank has at least 20k hp
    - Does he look def capped? how's the gemming? Check the healer gear.
ask questions if anything is wrong
In any case, if the people are fun, go anyway, ofc, wiping can be a good laugh, too

I remember some cases where i did an instant /leave :
Tank in green dps set. (hi, are you wearing your tanking armor? yes? gl, cya)
on my DK, was asked "can you heal" (wtf?)
invited as "last spot healer", 2 rogues, one shaman and a hunter. (where's the tank? *silence*)
no taunts after a few pulls, or i get aggro after 1 strike several times....

My Usual way to tell if a PuG will fail is in a full 25 man raid...

RL> "Healers say 111, tanks say 222 please"
Random1> 111222 (I can dual spec as either)
    Random2> 111
    Random3> 222

    Silence.....

Made it less classist for ya (jeeze)

clearly 25 man raids need more than 1 tank, 1 healer and 1 dual spec heal / tank.

    Dear developers,

please nerf Rock, it's too overpowered. Paper is fine, however.

Re: Can you tell in advance if a pug will fail ?

When tanking on my pally.....if I am leading dps/dmg done on trash before first boss/getting saved. /quit

When DPS'ing on my lock.....wait till tank has 3-4 gcd's after his first strike/sunder, nvm I still can pull off all but the best tanks. If the rest of the group isn't above the tank on dmg.

General trends: if the nearly all melee dps is in crafted and quest rewards, if the healer is a ret spec in blue/green holy gear, if their "tank" and dps sets share more than a few pieces, the druid is healing as feral, and if they take revolving afk's or summons demands while waiting on other afk's.....

Actually, now that you meantion it.....I don't do pugs anymore.

Re: Can you tell in advance if a pug will fail ?

you can useualy tell by the players attitude

if there not moving to the instance
there english skills are poor (no offenece to those russians i used to play with on shadowmoon ^^)
how they talk to one another
if there is silience when you say hey its useualy a bad sign

few times when i pug i useualy go feral and bring one of the extremly good healers i know along so we can faceroll the instance even if others are poor :P

Only 20k? I wouldn't pug with any tank that has less than 30k hp. Even healers and dps can get up to 20k hp.

Re: Can you tell in advance if a pug will fail ?

Normally when the person leading the raid says in trade, "LF dps for 25 VOA must be 4k plus". What that tells me is that they themself cannot come close to doing that much so they need 15 more to carry them. And normally the person saying that does 2k. Im going to add something to this as well....IF YOU STILL THINK 2K DPS IS GOOD YOU MIGHT WANT TO GO BACK TO NAXX 10.

Re: Can you tell in advance if a pug will fail ?

depends on what it's for really.

Naxx10 for example, gear really doesn't matter. Knowledge of the fight > than anything else. With exceptions of course. Tank must be def capped, etc... Same with Sarth either 10 or 25.

Kind of like when the huge BC nerf happened. I was changing mains in expansion and wanted to finish TK, SSC, etc... before LK hit. I formed raids. My only criteria was KNOW THE FIGHT. gear wasn't important. I had people bringing alts in greens and we still face rolled the stuff.

Took a recent 80 to naxx25 in lvl 70 badge gear. He held his own. Sure his damage was low, but he also didn't die to Thaddius either. I'd rather see people undergeared who know the fight than better geared scrubs.

Re: Can you tell in advance if a pug will fail ?

Well, if I'm healing with my priest or tanking with my DK ,as crappy as the others are, the PUG won't fail. When Im DPS with my Rogue then....all bets are off. I will just spec out the Tank and healer and bail out or stay depending on their gear and spec.

Re: Can you tell in advance if a pug will fail ?

I can normally tell straight away by communication alone. A group or raid with a lot of clear communication is a lot more likely to succeed than a half assed group that just say "go" on boss pulls.

    8:00pm: we finish the raid
8:10pm[trade]" just need a couple of mroe dps for naxx heroic, one quarter clear"
    >I go farm shit
9:00pm [trade] "come on guys only need three heals and dps for thaddius"
    >I logg to my alt and check ah/mail
10:00pm[trade] one more dps for thaddius naxx 25 gogogo /w me
I>nothign else to do, so I whisper him, get invited, portal is up, i have no buffood or flasks, we kill thaddius, t7.5 pants drop, i get em. Next up sapphiron, we wipe, I disconnect and go offline, then go to sleep.

    that was ironic
But, afaik, you don't have 30k in heroic gear (25-30). Bears probly a bit more.

Re: Can you tell in advance if a pug will fail ?

It sometimes can be tricky. For me personally, if someone spams raid chat asking "summon me plz!!" over and over, I pester the RL into kicking them. They usually agree. If the leaders start distributing the loot before we even get there, I take it as a warning sign. If people start to argue over who gets what, I get out. If no one makes any effort to make their own way to the raid, I do get worried. English skills is another thing.

The most annoyed I have ever been in a raid was a Naxx10 guild run. Everything was going fine till we got to Grob. Now we had a resto shammy. He was Russian I think and appeared to have decent English. We started the fight, but he kept poison cleanse totems up and didn't move when he got the poison thingy on him. He ended up wiping us.

We went again, exact same thing happened. I then asked the RL to have a word. The RL asked him if he knew what he was doing, he told him yes. Went again, same thing. I went off in raid chat, asking him if he knew the tactics, that it was ok to not know and all that matters was telling us so we could tell him. No response. He wouldn't even acknowledge me. It was the same with the RL.

We went for one more time after I spammed raid chat with instructions. Same thing happened again. The RL decided to end the raid, both em and him were severely pissed off. Then someone piped up "English isn't his first language, give him a break". Then the shammy says "Yea, my English isn't good". It seemed fine before the raid started. Then it seems to get to bad, he cannot tell that other players are speaking to him. I called shenanigans and left the raid. He was using language as an excuse for not paying attention.
