    Refreshing Rip

Hey i am new to druid and theres something odd i came across while testing my dps on the dummies. Basically i had a 5 combo rip on the target and went to refresh the rip with another 5 stack rip, but sometimes and im not 100% sure when it happens, but it says a more powerful spell is already active. So basically the boss has a rip thats almost over ticking on him and i have 5 combo points and enough for a new rip but i cant use it until the old one falls off. Any ideas? My glyphs are shred, rip and SR

This happens in several other dots too. More than likely (coming from a mage so im not 100% sure) you had more attack power thanks to some sort of proc or buff when you put up the first rip. Then said buff falls off and you have your more normal ap value when attempting to refresh the dot. So you basically are trying to apply a weaker rip to the target the second time around thus the error message.

it is because you proc'd a trinket or passive ability that increased your Attack power, then that buff fell off when you tried to put the new rip up, so the 1st one was more powerful and can't yet be overwritten

So what am i supose to do? Wait till rip falls off so i refresh? Savage roar/Fero bite and then have rip not on the target for 10+secs?

If you have a sec or 2 left just save it and refresh it as it falls off. If you have longer then 8 sec on the current rip AND have SR up you can FB. If you don't have SR up blow it on the sr as long as you have 8 sec on rip.

You should try to avoid clipping any kind of bleeds. It's wasted energy. If your energy bar is almost full and you're waiting to refresh rip then toss in another shred. Even if you've already extended rip as much as you can it's still better than not doing anything.

Agreed, sometimes you'll just have those moments where you have like 25 seconds on SR but only like 6 seconds on Rip, with low energy and TF is on cooldown. Just gotta kinda wait until rip falls off, which is what you should be doing already. Refreshing rip before it falls off is 1 or however many less ticks than you could of had for that amount of energy. if you have a full energy bar or get a CC proc before rip falls off feel free to toss a shred in, as stated above.

Also remember that as long as your energy < 100 , you're not losing dps by waiting for the rip to finish (provided mangle and rake are on the target already and you'll still have SR when it does finish). If your energy approaches 100, you can throw in an extra shred / rake / mangle even though you have 5cp -- it will be more damage in the long run than clipping the bleed.
