Dragon's Eyes are No Longer Prismatic!?!?!

    WTF!??!?! Last second secret surprise?

"Dragon's Eye gems stat bonuses increased. In addition, these gems are no longer prismatic and must be matched to the appropriate colored socket to activate an item's socket bonus."

    http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/

Did anyone see this before today? The PTR patch notes never make any mention of this. Or at least I haven't seen it in the notes.

It was mentioned by a blue a few months ago, I'm amazed you haven't seen the QQ-ing, although all the ret QQ and emblem QQ has probably drowned it out.

Dragon's Eyes match the color of their cut, so a Bold is red, Solid is blue, etc.

You mean like the giant announcement that was published on MMO a month or so ago that caused a massive uproar that had people QQ'ing for weeks? I don't remember seeing anything like that...

yeah. i haven't been paying close attention to the profession changes this time around than just glancing briefly at PTR notes from time to time. I figured they wouldn't make such a dramatic change at the last minute.

just because you found out at the last minute doesn't mean it happened in the last minute... It has been this way for MONTHS. you just didn't see it is all. Welcome to balanced.

I'm calling it now: BS sockets will be ruled "OP" and will only be capable of holding one epic gem in the BS sockets.

Actually, he has a very good point. While the non-prismatic Dragon's Eye change was extensively and thoroughly QQ'ed about 2 months ago before they revamped ALL the other professions, there has been no mention of in any Blizz change lists / patch notes since then. Further, if you actually followed his links to the two patch notes above, you'll see that THEY ADDED this at the last minute to the official 3.2 Patch notes.

So, yeah. Surprise, you really are screwed and now need lots of Purple Gems if you're a JC.

Why? That would just make the blacksmithing proffesion less desirable than the others, due to all of the others getting buffed, JC is getting dragons eyes boosted, alch is getting mixology buffed, LW and insc are getting their respective armor buffs buffed, even the gathering proffesions "racials" are being buffed (lifeblood/toughness), and enchanter specific enchants are being buffed.

Why would BS get the short end of the stick while everything else gets buffed?

You must mean last minute like when the announcement of the subway doors are closing... then the next reminder as the doors are closing while you are running to them as they make that last second decision to close them in your face and or close them on your arm as you attempt to blame "them" for doing it last minute...

    yeah...

Not as big a deal as I originally though. This basically only affects socket bonuses, which for the most part are pretty weak. Considering how the gems themselves are getting buffed, it's pretty much a wash.

I [u]NEVER worry about socket bonuses on my items anyhow. Never have never will. Unless of course I need a gem for my meta that I can't get with my normal gems. Like if my pants call for a blue and red socket for a +6 stam bonus, and I'd normally put two stam gems in there, and my meta requires a red, I'll put the str/stam gem in them so that i still gain the stam from it. For the most part I stay above the def cap so I don't worry about socket bonuses regarding Defense unless I absolutely cannot find a way to get def capped without it.

Actually it affects socket bonus and meta gem requirement. Which was the whole reason of going JC. Being able to stack 1 stat while gaining socket bonus and still having meta gem active.
