New Ret Pally

Hello all, I recently started a pally which is level 73 currently. I plan on playing pve ret / some pvp spec (im not sure if I want to do healing or ret yet). I am a blacksmith / miner, and plan on playing the character semi-seriously, possibly switching it to my main if I like it enough.

So the question is what kind of boe gearing should I be looking for when I hit 80? I figure I will grab a greatness deck, but besides that im wondering what is worth grabbing now or getting with conquest badges in some shape or manner. Also along the lines of conquest badge gear, which pieces do you think give the most 'bang for buck'.

Oh, if anyone has any interesting ideas for an arena offspec that would be appreciated also.

As far as Conquest emblem gear goes, if it has more Str on it than any thing you currently have, it will most likely be an upgrade. That said, the emblem gear isnt fantastic.

If you'll be farming heroics then, there are epic legs from UK that are good. There is only one epic 2h from heroics, out of HoL. Though, the crafted gear is pretty decent for fresh 80s too. The Titansteel helm and Titansteel 2h mace. Greatness trinket is still one of the 2 BiS trinkets available. The valor badge bracers are good since they have some expertise on them.

Once you hit 80 (for Retribution PvE):

Start doing heroics for some easy Epics/Conquest Badges.

Also start grinding for faction rep that's available in Northrend. They don't take long (a few heroics to get exalted) and they provide some easy epics and item enhancements, such as http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44306 and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44149.

By this time you should have gathered a good chunk of Conquest badges to purchase your Tier 8.5 head and chest.

Naxx 10/25, OS 10/25 and EoE 10/25 drop very good plate DPS gear.

And remember these numbers- 263 Hit, 6.50% Expertise (or close to it), and stack Str and Crit as much as possible.

Thanks much for the info, so as I see it currently: Greatness is a fantastic deal for a boe item, do heroics for good blues / epics while farming badges, get T8.5 first. Im guessing Mirror of Truth second, but after that im not sure.

As to pvp spec, I was initially wanting to play the prot healing spec for 2s, but seeing how 2s is kind of being phased out, anyone know a good spec for 3s (the bracket im most likely to play).

qonquest - take every piece of plate dps but stay far away from arp
valor - take what u didnt get with qonquest but again stay far away from arp
heroism - take what u didnt get with 2 other mentioned and take arp if its an uppgrade

stay far away from arp and before u buy any gear go trough all heroics and compare to what can be bought and especialy tournament gear.

I haven't PvP'd much since 3.2 came out but I heard Holy Pallies are still doing well.
The new HoT applied when Sacred Shield is up is a nice bonus.
Again, save up those Conquest badges so you can easily purchase Deadly Glad gear (if your going to focus on PvP).
