Need VS Greed on items everyone is rolling on

When an item drops in a raid that everyone is allowed to roll on such as an orb, mount, bag, or quest item(and its not on master looter for whatever reason) why is it tradition for everyone to roll greed? This happens most often in Sarth or Ony pugs where they forgot to ML. If everyone has the same right to it then why are you enabling ninjas? Everyone rolling need is exactly like everyone rolling greed except it ensures fairness rather than tempting jerks to hit need after everyone else greeds. This is a very common practice and to me its such a huge logical fail that I cant' figure out where the tradition came from.

If you're a raid leader and everyone is expected to roll on an item it should be a need roll. Asking everyone to greed is just inviting trouble for absolutely no reason other than "tradition."

Whenever a mount or something equal drops on my server, we always roll need for it.

I just need on stuff I deem worth needing, I see no reason why would I greed on let's say a mount and let some retard ninja it.
As for orbs and stuff like that, If I'm makin' a pug I always state people who need them need(qualify by let's say proffession), rest just pass, ofcourse if anyone gets smart and needs if he doesnt acctualy need it, I open up armory, boot if necesary and make a server forum post

In my 10m, all BoE items are needed on.

As far as gear goes, greed for de, need if you need. Pass if you're not gonna use it.

At least, that's just my 10m. When you have 10 people out of your 25m main raid, ML just slows you down and becomes pointless.

Agreed. Even if we have to PuG one person in if I'm the raid leader I tell everyone who wants the item to roll on it.

In some instances - like Malygos where ML often gets shut off (at least last time I did it) I've had the blue drake drop and was fortunate enough to get it. It's a vanity item so it's not hurting anyone's prestige by opening up the rolls.

I don´t see the problem. If something like a mount/bg etc drops on my server everyone needs on it. If you can´t use a item you greed. If it´s a boe item everyone needs. It´s simple.

Nobody needs a BoE item more than anyone else. If it can be sold in AH everyone should be equally entitled to roll on it.

Bad idea. Did the brewfest boss and a mount dropped yesterday. One guy greeds so I say damn, now everyone has to greed and all the rest agree. One more greeds and then boom 2 ppl need. So I need and win it and give it to one of the guys that greeded. Then turned out the two "needers" wanted to summon the boss last because neither actually had a summons. So they hearthed out. Always always need because of people like this. They might still win but at least its not a guaranteed win for em.
