Re: Gear Vs Skill The final SCIENTIFIC decision

    OP has forgotten something

gear and spec determines player's potential. the better gear the better possible results. but its up to the skill how you use this potential. you can use it in 100% or in 20%. gear also puts maximum limit for your performance. without proper gear its impossible to go above certain level no matter how good you are.

i dont know what you want to check by performing these strange tests. they just dont make any sense to me.
I have enough of EA ruining great franchises and studios, forcing DRM and Origin on their games, releasing incomplete games only to sell day-1 DLCs or spill dozens of DLCs, and then saying it, and microtransactions, is what players want, stopping players from giving EA games poor reviews, as well as deflecting complaints with cheap PR tricks.

I'm not going to buy any game by EA as long as they continue those practices.

1900 dps on a 72 warlock in crap gear with bad enchants due to enchanting.

Sure, I have the right gems, and spec.

But still. I outdps many many 80s out there.

If Gear>Skill then all those 80 hunters and DKs doing 800 dps must be naked right?

DPS isn't where the true skill comes in when playing WoW. Every class is refined down to a rotation. Skill comes in being able to survive more or less. Why do you think bosses like Patchwerk are considered "gear checks"?

Go back to vanilla and pre-3.0 (BC before the wrath event patch) and Gear = Skilled anyone else remember when that was true?

lets say with gear your fire mage pulls 6k dps
    without gear you pull 3k
and with gear but no spec you pull 3k
that would mean that your gear and skills have an equal impact on your dps
No. You misunderstand. The above scenario would not be a meaningful measure of skill as explained a number of times in this thread already.

Since human = mistakes there won't be any scientific results. If you could get a computer to simulate it, sure, but then again computers can't do what players are supposed to. There will exist mistakes in raids and you can't really say it's scientific unless it's perfect.

Oh dear, I hope so! I have friends that solo'd mostly up to 80 and when they ding, we run them through heroics and sometimes I see the Recount and cry but it isn't too bad, better gear and more experience in groups should help... better help.

I would hazard to say that gear only matters in two situations:
    • You're SEVERAL tiers behind in progression.
    (ilevel 200s doing Normal ToC)
    • You're doing Hard Modes.

Even then, you can easily be carried through normal content. It's only in hard modes that every bit of DPS/HPS/HP actually matters, for skilled players.
