Had no choice between hard mode and normal mode, and was just hardest mode all the time, do you think it would have been better this way? Worse? What do you think?

I'm sure the hardcores would absolutely love it, but the casuals would get very annoyed not having access to gear.
RIP Knight-Lieutenant Nosredneh; LvL 70 Dwarf Retribution Paladin, Vanilla-End BC.

This is how BC raiding was, I personally enjoyed it more than the current method. The first few bosses were generally easy for lesser skilled guilds but a few bosses in the difficulty ramped up and provided a nice wall that separated the good from the normal and the normal from the baddies.
Orbit-uary level FL would have cast-iron completely screwed most people upon entry, and turned it into another retarded instance only 25-40% of people could see. Eventually.
4 towers was a joke. I know some pretty crappy guilds that can easily do 4 towers.
On-Topic tho: I wouldn't have liked it, I like to raid with some friends that aren't hardcore (on my alts) and they wouldn't be able to do those hardmodes... so that raid'd be pretty much screwed.
4 tower got heavily nerfed. So heavily nerfed that guilds went from not doing 3 tower to one shotting 4 tower post nerf.Originally Posted by Dreager_ex

4 towers was first easier, then got buffed by quite a bit, because guilds were doing it on the first day and then it got nerfed again.Originally Posted by mistashizzle

I know this presents a vast array of problems within itself (notibly a massive range of people with massive gear differences, finding groups for the easier raid instances once others have finished with it, increased development costs and a whole host of other shit),
but i seriously hate repeating the same instance over and over and over and over and over and OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGIN EACH WEEK.
run different ones? try ulduar with hardmodes? most hard modes in ulduar promote a different type of fight over things just hitting harder and doing the exact same shit...Originally Posted by bigblack23

I know you was trying to help, but seriously, your reply was just an insane example of lack of reading skills.
(Did all hard modes months ago btw anyway)
As opposed to wiping on the same boss for weeks on end?Originally Posted by bigblack23
It's the same thing.
What would you prefer?
A. Killing 2 bosses and then being stuck at boss #3 for a week, slowly progressing
B. Killing all bosses, seeing all of the content, and then doing it again with different mechanics
You're gonna be farming it OVER AND OVER AND OVER again regardless, aren't you?
Honestly, option B has been so much better so far.
which would destroy almost any oceanic guild's chances of beating the content... 400+ ms on content like that = less than perfect execution and co'ordination by default...Originally Posted by Chronalis
good idea though =D chuck it up on the suggestions forum maybe

Option C - Instead of 1 raid instance with easy mode / hard mode, you have 2 raid instances with progressive difficulty levels of bosses.
It wasn't hard to understand that this was what i was talking about in my previous post.
Thanks for the replies guys nice to hear your opinions.
I also agree with what Chronalis said, all very true especially the very end.
Then Algalon would be Kael'thas stating that azeroth was merely a setback of the titans! What if Ulduar...
was merely a set back!
When Ulduar shipped they should have allowed players to pick a progress route,
Heroic or normal.
Once heroic was chosen players would then have to go down that route with no option for a downgrade, untill the content was cleared. This would give those seeking it a feeling of a much more Epic instance. And give the progress raids that people want so bad.
If players chose normal, they would have to clear the instance at least once to open up heroic mode. This would allow those not as skilled to play through and get a feeling for the raid, before attempting the harder options.
It would also stop the increasing number of people who outgear content then claim its easy. The heroic people would have to attempt the truely hard version of the instance in Tier 7 gear. Making the whole thing a lot more difficult.
I think this would have solved a lot of the QQing that we are seeing currently.
I think the philosophy at Blizzard was like this before Wrath of Lich King:
Beginner players get:
- levelling experience - making it easy, but also 1-2 challenging parts (1-2% of all quests can be a bit harder).
- 5-man normal dungeons - all 5-man normal dungeons should be for casuals
- Reputation items, reputation runs
Advanced (more hardcore) players get:
- 5-man heroic dungeons
- Raids
Please note I have not used casual or bad player in expressions.
At Wrath of Lich king (especially launch), this seems to have changed to:
Beginner players get:
- levelling experience - making everything super-easy, including solo-killing same level elites, solo doing 5-man quests
- 5-man normal dungeons - all 5-man normal dungeons should be for casuals
- 5-man heroic dungeons
- Reputation items, reputation runs
- Raids
Advanced (more hardcore) players get:
- nothing, maybe Malygos untill they figure out phase 3
After content patches, Ulduar was very good for advanced players, TOC heroic is good for "advanced" players too, but there is generally a huge lack of content done for players who already understand the game, and are in a good guild - in WOTLK.
This is perhaps a very fair and valid assessment, however look at it this way. Once 3.3 hits, their should be very little in the way of 'beginner' players left. Once people start to raid, generally they are hooked. There should be no-one stuck at entry level raid content now, like their was with Kara in TBC. People can skip Ulduar, gear up in TOC with relative ease, then go back and outgear Ulduar. However even outgearing Ulduar its still quite a challanging instance, and should improve peoples raiding skill.Originally Posted by Gron
This gives Blizzard a very good opertunaty to make ICC to have a very large core of raiding players, entering ICC at the same time. And they should be able to tune it accordingly. I hope they do something similer to what i suggested in my previous post.
Time will tell I guess.
