SV Pet choice - Wolf or die?

Not taking into consideration pets that bring buffs or debuffs that assist the raid or group.... are there any pets that that compete enough with the wolf's ap buff to his master that would justify bringing it instead of the wolf?

I think that the cat has higher pet dps, but the wolf buffs your dps with a stacking 10% ap buff hence its superiority.

I've heard people talking about cunning pets like dragonhawks and windserpents. Any thoughts guys?

Cunning may be the way to go next patch but I'm not sure.

I used my Wolf before they were cool, I'll probably stick with it.

Well the cat has the same 10% ap buff, but not the straight AP buff that the wolf has. So cat does more dps then the wolf, but with the wolf you will do a higher combined (hunter+pet) dps.

Cunning pets wont be any good DPS wise, they are nice because of roar of recovery, but if you have Judgement of Wisdom up on the boss you dont have mana issues anyways.

Due to the changes in Wolverine Bite, but it still won't matter since Furious Howl is just such a great boost for the Hunter (shows as 180 DPS for me and about 40 for my pet per Shandara's 92a).

So basically, any pet needs to be about 200 DPS more than a Wolf is to be worth taking over a Wolf.

I very strongly doubt the improvements to wolverine bite are enough to make up losing:
- call of the wild
- furious howl
- spider's bite
- rabid
- shark attack (instead of wild hunt)

by switching from a ferocity wolf to a cunning pet.

No, probably not.

The problem with Cunning pets is that they "turn on" when the boss is below 35%. However, that's the shortest part of the fight - at that point, your raid (usually) is blowing cooldowns, Executes are coming online, and the like.

Yeah, it seems as if Cunning Pets damage is being buffed to help the hunter with what he or she probably chooses the cunning pet in the 1st place for: PVP.

Except almost all hunters play with crabs now for the double stun.

I've always used the Winterspring cat. The other hunters always bring a wolf pet, but I still always beat them.

One of the hunters has a few better pieces of gear then be, but I always beat him by a good 500-1k dps. So is it really worth getting a wolf?

The obvious point would be that you'd probably beat him by more if you brought a wolf too. Whether that's worth it to you or not is a question best left to you (and your raid leader).

You're just better than them. If you had a wolf, you'd be slightly more better than you are right now.

Wolf best at buffing the Hunter with two AP Buffs, "Furious Howl" and "Call of the Wild". A cat or devilsaur will do more damage then a wolf but you won't be using a devilsaur and it's more important for you to do more damage then to have a pet who has more damage. In a raid other pet abilites like a stun or disarm aren't going to work against bosses.

Wolf is the strongest pet for all spec.

Even for BM, it's almost equal to devilsaur and devilsaur is a pain cause of it's size... so wolf might even be 'better' yet.

Devilsaur rocks the wolf pretty hard for BM, not gonna lie.
