Do you people like or dislike the improvements in the water effects that are being implemented in Cataclysm? Discuss please.
I don't see how they could possibly be perceived as negative. It is undoubtedly going to be an optional graphical setting if your computer cannot handle it. If your computer can handle it, an improvement to water's appearance is a welcome change.

I dislike it because I like my water to look plain and boring. This new revolutionary amazing looking water is ridiculous and uneeded.

If you like your water plain and boring, Veno, just don't turn on the new water graphics. It is an option.

Well, details like this is great to see. Though this will require even better computers. And that alone annoys me.

I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but I would rather have them work on improving character models than water.
But yeah, I like it anyway.
Water is much easier to improve and probably doesn't have the QA testing of player models.Originally Posted by DarthMuffin
Lag - Network related. High server response time, stop downloading.
Low FPS - Your computer can't keep up with the game - buy a better one
Dalaran doesn't lag (often) your pc just sucks.

I liked it, and they probably had a terribly good reason: The new things theyre gonna do with water and *inc* water mounts
Love the new water. Overall I'm a big fan of WOW's graphic and art style, but my one complaint would be how the water looked horribly tiled when you're high above it, up close it's not bad.
So yeah, this is a great change.
Yeah, now you'll need a typewriter instead of an abacus.Originally Posted by Shawaam

What a fucking stupid question, and a typical WoW complainer, just egging people on to find fault with something.

WoW looks dull, Proberly? I think the graphics are vibrant and colorful. An artistic departure from an attempt at photo-realism. You want a dull-looking game, look at the typical modern game that attempts realism in its graphics. You can only see so many gray-shaded post-apocalyptic worlds before it puts you to sleep.

World of Warcraft looks like it does because of the problems with cost/profit relations, not because of a genious design desicion. Continuosly creating new content for a 'better looking' game would just be too expensive. Blizzard already has problems with creating new textures and models for new dungeons, UI-Elements et cetera (hence the prominent reusage of content throughout Azeroth, Northrend and The Outland), since even Blizzards WoW-Development-Team has a limited amount of graphical artists, who need to sleep regularily. Crysis-like graphics will not make that easier. Fortunately for these artists, the times of Starcraft, where every participating Developer put in 80-100 hour weeks to make it through the crunch-zone, are over.Originally Posted by Leowyld
It's also easy to scare off customers with high hardware requirements.
Also, don't worry too much about performance dumps with the new water effects. In a nutshell, the effects used for the new water are already in place when you walk around in Tanaris and get blinded by that shiny sand. The 'new water' just adds a few mathematical calculations which figure out from where to reflect the light.

how about they focus on FIXING bugs instead of making pretty looking water?
nope, they hope shiny new things will distract us.Originally Posted by lookerr

Do you honestly think the bug team is the same as the art team? If so please DIAF.
