Caster Legendary

So me and my friend were discussing Cataclysm and I told him how the first legendary would be a caster legendary, and I jokingly said that I'll be the first to get it. (I don't even think my guild will get one). And he then said that I'll never get one because Elemental Shaman don't deserve a caster legenedary...I was like lolwut?

His reasoning is that since Warlocks and Mages are pure classes they are most deserving of a legendary, while the hybrid casters shouldn't be allowed to get it. I thought this was absurd but he wouldn't budge.

What do you guys think?

I think such thought is an unfortunate consequence of blizzard's antiquated "hybrid tax" ideas. Yes, sadly it's become outdated just in the course of one expansion. Stop giving all the pures as much utility as the hybrids and it'll make sense, until then stuff it.

I still and always think that casters in general don't deserve legendary weapons.

The casters in lore aren't made by their expert use of a weapon..... if anything casters should get legendary spells 8)

no, 1st legendary of cataclysm, confirmed from the very first raid dungeons of the expansion is indeed a caster dps weapon, it was confirmed on blizzcon

He does have a slight point in that if enh turns out to do 30% more dps, you'll do it and the legendary will collect dust.

Of course a first tier legendary isnt lasting very long anyways.

I'd actually really like this, but I fear it would never happen. Death Knights would start complaining that all the other tank classes get the oppotunity to get a nice new shield and they get nothing.

Hunters had a sunwell legendary, rogues had a black temple legendary. Enh shamans have been shafted a bit, but ele at least would benefit from a caster legendary. The last caster legendary, not including the temporary ones from kael, was Atiesh from Vanilla. So casters haven't had one in a long time.

Classes that should be next on the list:
Enh. shamans (somehow... they haven't had anything at all, and got glanced over by the latest offering as well)
Casters (last one was atiesh in vanilla)
Tanks (last one was thunderfury in vanilla, predating atiesh)

Argeed, though shadowmourne could be counted as a tank weapon, for DK's.
