    Good starting trinkets for ret?

So I am wondering if anyone can help me out here for I need some good basic trinkets for ret and by basic I mean, no ICC stuff for some time.

Needle encrusted scorpion I hear is no good for ret but what about Mark of Supramcy-should I spend my badges on that? Also considering my primary source of Frost badges are the daily heroic and the occasional weekly raid-should i spend my badges on the war token?

If you aren't needing all of the hit rating on Mark of Supremacy, its worse than Needle Encrusted. The two best starter ret trinkets are still DMC:Greatness and Mirror of Truth. The trinket from Emblems of frost is very good for ret but you should be more worried about picking up the T10 pieces first, then trinket, then libram.

I saw someone selling DMC:G for 3.5k in trade chat yesterday on my server. That trinket is worth every penny you spend on it shy of 8k gold.

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40684 / http://www.wowhead.com/?item=42987 will last you a long time (If you can't grab a greatness deck consider http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40431 and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40371).

After those aim for http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47115 / http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50342 . I wouldn't waste frost badges on http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50355 until you're in 2pc t10 and nothing else is looking particularly shiny to you.

Also, http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50198 is not as terrible as many would have you believe; I'm not telling you to go out and ninja it from a warrior or hunter etc. who gains a hefty dps gain from it, but I wouldn't completely throw it out the window because of it having ArP.

The above posters have better suggestions, but if you have the absolute worst luck in the world on drops and don't have the cash for the AH, you could do far worse than:

Mark of Supremacy (50 Emblems of Triumph)
Mirror of Truth (40 Emblems of Heroism)

... which are easy to pick up just by chain running heroics.

Definitely not the optimal - and definitely not what you "really" want - but they'd work until you got something better.

banner of victory is terrible, you'd be better off with the needle-encrusted scorpion.

Sim accuracy is debatable. In fact, my Rawr is going crazy for Ret right now. It thinks DMC:G is better than Death's Choice.

    Statweights > Sim.

Greatness and mirror of truth are probably hands down the most easily obtained and flexible options you have.

Spreadsheets tend to be more accurate, because they actually compare the piece with what your other stats are. Statweight won't do that.

However, they're prone to bugs, which is the downside. If a sim is working properly, it's better without a doubt. But, seldom are they flawless, and are sometimes absolutely filled with bugs - like I said, right now, it's telling me that DMC:G is better than both versions of Death's Choice, and if that's right, I'll give my left testicle to a rabid monkey.

I think that a spreadsheet/sim should only be used in conjuction with knowledge of statweights so one can actually check if the answer you're getting back is accurate. When used properly, of course, it's a useful tool.

Yeah, the procs of the trinket probably don't count properly right now.

    True.
