Don't get why people thing affliction is so low in heroics, usually am about 40% of group damage done, like my other chars who have around the same equipment changes when good melee dps come in. Fury warriors are one of the few who get dangerous (in terms of dmgmeter/speeding up the run which you seem to be concerned about), .

Depends absolutely on how quick the trash dies and to a lesser degree on how good the tank is.

If things die fast, put up a corruption on main target and cast seeds on everything else (taking care not to overwrite corruption of course)

If things die slow put corruption and UA up on everything, haunting main target and then whatever would benefit most (typically target with highest HP).

Pretty easy to top dmgmeter, bit more hectic to play than other classes in my experience

seriously though, I've played lock for 5 years and I sometimes get outdpsed by the tank in heroics, you can say about mass dotting whatever you want but it simply doesn't work (and that was in the time that there were 5 dots, I rerolled protadin now).

Why would aff lock be different than any other caster class in heroics? No, you don't use your single target abilities on trash pulls. Which class do you do that as?

Spam seed, spam seed, spam seed. I don't see how or why destro would be any better; you do the same thing anyway. You can complete full aff rotations on bosses in heroics, granted you will do less than arcane mages, but oh well, lack of timers has always sucked.

And if the tank is outdpsing you, delete your character. There is no way seed popping every 2 seconds for 10k+ is going to be losing to a tank.

1 mob packs are usually high enough hp so that you can actually do something, the 2-3 mob packs are the worst.

Seriously tho, this is why you have dual spec. Affliction is awesome for levelling, pvp (I think, never done it) and now also for raiding, but it just isnt cut out for heroics. Surely you can do high dps on the bosses, but the goal of heroics is not to down certain bosses, it is to clear the instance as fast as possible. Trash makes out 80% of an instance at least.

For one mob, you're probably better of just spamming shadow bolt with a corruption up. For any more than that, SoC all the way. Sure, it isn't mana efficient and people will probably question your judgment on using an AoE spell if it is on less than 3 targets, but just do it.

More than two targets? Spam Seed.
Two targets? UA both, spam Seed.
One target with high health? Normal rotation.
One target with low health? Spam SB.

80%+ of your damage should be Seed. Only exception is the new ICC heroics. They have a lot of single pulls, or a lot of messy pulls. In those cases you get to use a normal rotation more, or Multi-DoT for lulls.

I do all my Heroics as Demo now though. Not that the strategy is much different, still almost entirely seeds. You just get to mix it up with Incinerate/Soul Fire a lot too. Plus if you ever want to get a drink you can blow Meta on a big trash pull, hit Imm, throw two seeds and watch yourself explode (but hey the 20k+ DPS you pulled for 3 seconds was fun right?).

I usually just spam Seed of Corruption on trash, and then enjoy using my usual rotation on bosses. It is less to do with Affliction as a whole, and more to do with the fact that these days everyone vastly outgears the Heroics.
