As others have said, no there is no way of getting it back. It sucks, it happens, and it sucks.

The only way a GM can restore an item is if the person who received the item submits a ticket indicating they want to give the item to another player. In the case of ninjas, obviously this does not happen.

It was as simple as googling for "patch roll tie loot," btw. No "scrounging around." If someone requests something, either give it to them or don't bother replying.

If it was just that simple, then people wouldn't need to others to do for them what they can do for themselves. However, if you find being a bleeding heart empowering, more power to you, ace.

Shortly before the last boss I make aware to everyone that they're to roll NEED on the orb, to prevent those pathetic little ninjas who think that ninjaing that 7 gold is a fun idea.

Kind of hijacking the thread here, so I'm sorry.

But I've seen people roll the same on an item on several occasions. Now, how does the system determine that player x gets the item instead of player y? Does it do an internal reroll or does it do it alphabetically?
