2 Piece T9 - When to drop it?

So, I'm not on a stable raiding schedule. I'm lucky to be able to raid once a week. Now and then I have the night free, my Fiance is out with friends or watching her tv shows, and my guild needs a DPS sub.

I spend a lot of time doing dailies, 5-mans, and BGs/WG.

The 2 piece bonus for T10 looks sick. I want it.

Problem is, I can't decide on what to upgrade in order to get my 2nd piece of T10.

I really want to enjoy that new set bonus from T10 as soon as possible, so I've really been thinking about going for the gloves next. However, that would destroy my 2piece T9 bonus. However, I still have my T9 helm in the bank, so if/when I upgrade to the T10 gloves, I can still maintain my 2piece T9 bonus.

- OR -

I can wait until next month and get the T10 helm.

So, help me out, what would you do in my situation? Please keep in mind that I bring in about 19 Emblems of Frost a week usually.

Well, you should go for Head/Chest/Shoulders as the 2 first ones, if you can't get all badges avaible every week.

Here's why: Toravon the Icewatcher, he's about to be released next week and will drop T10/S8 gloves/legs which results in that you will be able to obtain those with a little bit of luck. And if your luck turns up against you, you should be able to buy one of the parts after 2-4 weeks.

I know waiting sucks, but it's probably worth it.

In a week or so the new VoA wing will be out, so if you think you could find a few minutes to down the new boss once a week it's worth considering the chance of a piece dropping in there. It's very likely that this new boss will be able to drop the gloves/legs, so if you're very limited with your frost badges it's probably best to just save your badges and hope for a drop for those slots.

If you REALLY want the set bonus fast, go ahead and buy the gloves, but I think given how limited you are with not having badges from running ICC it's probably better in the long run to wait until last on gloves/legs (assuming that those will be the voa pieces).

I haven't been to VoA in a long time, I guess I just totally spaced out that they were adding a new boss in there soon.

You're right though, it makes more sense to spend the emblems were I need to since I can get the gloves and legs for "free".

Just sucks having to wait :'(.

I already dropped my T9-2PC bonus for Helm/Shoulder/Gloves from Badges; I knew all along about the new VoA Boss but I couldn't wait more than this. My raiding schedule is messed up like the OP, my work is totally against my time; And I'm having some issues with some of my guildies so I had to improve myself no matter what. That's why I was in a hurry for Tier10 items and so far I'm not regretting it.

Can't wait for VoA Boss though; need to get the 4th piece which is hopefully the pants or rather say the sexy dress......... CAN'T WAIT!

I've had to do alot of farting around with the trophies i'd stored up from runs in Circus Tent, The way i'm trying to do it is maintain T9-2S until i've got four pieces of tier 10, the drop in DPS i've noticed when equipping a third piece and losing the T9-2S is just too much to warrent.

To answer the title question simply, t9 2pc should be dropped when you get t10 4pc. There is a minor caveat, having to do with ilvl258 t9 2pc being greater than 4pc t10 ilvl251, but if you dont have ilvl258 t9 2pc then 4pc t10 is your best gear setup.

Correct. However even with all 251 pieces the 2 piece t9 may pull ahead, but once you get a token or two it smooths out much more nicely.

ok... to everyone saying "THE NEW VAULT BOSS CAN DROP OUR HANDS/GLUVS" the odds of you getting them is very, very low as a ret paladin.

here's why:

every class has an equal chance for their class gear to drop (10%)
every hybrid class has a chance for each type of gear to drop (paladins being a 3-way hybrid: 33% chance)
PVE or PVP gear can drop (50%)

.1 x .33 x .5 = .0165

to be nice i'll round that up to 2%

theres a 2% chance for the gloves OR hands to drop each run, and a 98% chance for anything else to drop.

.0165 x .5 = .00825

so less than 1% chance for the piece you need to drop if you already have gloves/legs

ok so you got lucky this week and they dropped, now you have to roll/bid or w/e depending on ur loot system against every other ret in the raid to get the item.

the chances of getting the gear you want from vault are very low, dont rely on the vault boss to give you your tier.

whether your math is right or not, i dont know. But the fact that there is a chance for them to drop is enough to wait until after youve killed the boss to then upgrade the slot in which he might drop something. It would suck to upgrade your gloves, gem and enchant them, roll into toravon, and he drop gloves.

I have always taken Serryn's approach when it comes to VoA. If I already purchased the item and it drops, I'll be a little bit miffed about it. I will not ever plan my gearing around the potential that VoA will drop an item I need and can use.

i though the same about tier 7-8.. never saw anything drop
until last season in 2 weeks i got my relentless leg and my 232-245 t9 leg and glove (yes 245 and 232 of both lol)

Yes and believe it or not I was hitting 7.5k-8.5k dps.

I know that wasn't for me but I did that too.
