    Low FPS on World of Warcraft

    Hello there.

    I recently bought a new pc with the following setup:
    Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz
    XFX Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5
    Windows 7 64-bit
    Kingston ValueR. DDR3 1333MHz 6GB, CL9
    MSI X58 Pro-E, Socket-1366

    And I stay at about 15-25 fps all the time, shouldn't I be able to get more?
    I run at best graphic-options on the GPU and the game, but when I had my old computer with a Pentium 4 3.4GHz and a GeForce 8600 I had about 30 fps on mid-options, shouldn't I be able to reach more with this pc?

    try turning down the shadow detail? Everyone says there buggy and cause low frame rates.

    1. Make sure your graphic drivers are up to date.
    2. As dashaus said, try turning down shadows, as they'll kill even a top end rig.
    3. If neither of the above help, post your dxdiag output. Go to Start, Run, put dxdiag in the box and press enter. On the window that pops up, click "Save All Information". Either copy/paste the information here or upload the file and link to it.

    V-Sync shouldn't cap their system at 15-25 fps. If they were capped at 60, then it might be V-Sync. Usually, there's no real reason to disable V-Sync except epeen flexing your max fps.

    Core i7 has hyperthreading , it might be that your config is set to use core 1 and 2 in wow which are the hyperthreaded cores of the first physical core

    http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...04078381&sid=1
    Need to know for best i7 performance in wow with hyperthreading (HT) enabled:

    Well, i had a full explaination going into the details of hyper-threading, multi-core, WoW process distribution, and calculation of the affinity mask. But, after typing all that towards the end it some how disappeared as i was typing.

    But, it ultimately explained how you derive the best affinity mask setting for i7, which is 84. You can find this number in other posts and you can also find other numbers other people have used. But, the reason why i like to use 84 is because it sets wow processes to the last three cores. This saves the first core for the rest of your computers normal tasks, like processing internet bandwidth for the game.

    To answer the question about reversed core/thread order on i7:
    Edit: binary 8 digits/threads: 01010100 = 84
    right to left =>
    0 = core 1 thread 1
    0 = core 1 thread 2
    1 = core 2 thread 1
    0 = core 2 thread 2
    1 = core 3 thread 1
    0 = core 3 thread 2
    1 = core 4 thread 1
    0 = core 4 thread 2

    84 = 01010100

    this sets the first thread for each of the last three cores. dedicating each thread of the wow game to one core each. I could write a full explanation why again, but i don't feel like it.

    Anyone with a Nehalem i7 will want to and need to change the affinity mask. it more than doubled my frame rate in Dalaran, on the Ultra setting!

    Off topic, but about performance, the shadows setting is a killer of frame rates. even for the best of graphics cards and pc's. I turned this down to 1/4 notch and greatly increased my frame rate and still keep that top notch quality of the game. I turned it off and it improves even much more. Depends on if you want to see shadows on the ground. it's up to you.

    I play this game on the specified system below and on a 32 inch LCD televesion. these modifications allow me to play the game the way i expected it to be played. I turn on vsync and get 60 frames per second everywhere, but dalaran. I still get 50 frames per second in dalaran. Whereas before i was only getting 10 - 20 fps in dalaran on ultra settings and before the affinity mask change.

    System
    Edit: Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit Service Pack 2
    Intel i7 920
    Asus Rampage II Extreme MoBo
    12GB Corsair 1333mHz
    2x Gigabyte GTS250 1G SLI
    Corsair 750W PSU
    2x Western digital 500 GB 7200rpm hds non-raid

    Def bugged. I have a PC similar to OP (but I have a HD5850), and when I disable the shadows my FPS skyrockets. With full shadows on, I have around 50-80 in Northrend (but Dalaran...). When shadows turned off, I'm over 200 FPS in most Northrend zones. Blizz already done some optimization but shadows still suck. The engine is getting old... I play Age of Conan with everything and my mother maxed out and I get better FPS than WoW with shadows turned on (which is odd as AoC is at least 10 times more beautiful graphically than WoW).

    Got the newest drivers.
    V-sync is off, can try to turn down the shadows, but still. My computer is way better than the old one and I had like better fps there. ;c

    I am running WoW from the x86-folder right now.
    And how do I do this then? :F

    AddOns and shadows off made like a difference of 3 fps. Still at about 21 at the argent tournament, kek.

    Do you use a bigger monitor than before? higher resolution = higher graphical demands

    Re: Low FPS on World of Warcraft

    There are actually some posts in the WoW forums on this. I thought there was a sticky but I was unable to find it but hopefully this will send you in the right direction. In short WoW by default only uses 2 cores. In your config.wtf file there is a SET processAffinityMask. For your i7 processor set this to 255 (there are also formulas explaining why to use 255 in the WoW technical forums but I'm at work and unable to dig in and find them). Also, there is a possibility that Windows 7 is putting some of the cores in parked mode. Again, there are more technical explanations out there. Sorry I couldn't provide more specific info.

    The SET processaffinityMask is briefly mentioned in this post if you are looking for a place to start.

    I'll read that post then, unless you want to tell me how to do. :F
    Shouldn't I be able to run WoW in 64-bit too?
    Anyways, keep on helpin'!

    yeah but still. did you check the specs of OP's PC? he should be 100+ FPS everywhere but in Dalaran (expect 25-45) with this system and shadows turned off. something is wrong for sure.

    But soon after Mr Xi secured a third term, Apple released a new version of the feature in China, limiting its scope. Now Chinese users of iPhones and other Apple devices are restricted to a 10-minute window when receiving files from people who are not listed as a contact. After 10 minutes, users can only receive files from contacts.
    Apple did not explain why the update was first introduced in China, but over the years, the tech giant has been criticised for appeasing Beijing.
