Whether it's old or new, you just like the stuff that you like. If you lean towards the older stuff, so be it, there are still artists with a similar leaning to you who try to make music in that same vein.

Goriq and I have spent some time going over the differences in our preferences in Steam chat and yeah - no piece or direction of music is going to please everyone.

I went and saw Blind Guardian on Saturday night. Absolutely fantastic performance. It's a shame the venues sound equipment is so outdated. It was Halloween, and Hansi can out dressed like 70's Elvis, complete with white jumpsuit, wig and sunglasses. The other guys wore these skeleton jester outfits. So much fun. They played for over two hours. They even played Wizard's Crown because it was Halloween. I am still reeling from this show. "Into the Storm" live never gets old.

Black grindcore. Yep, it sounds exactly as you'd expect it.

This is pretty cool and weird, Meshuggah type djent that goes full avant-garde at points. This track is kinda one-dimensional, unfortunately the much cooler stuff is not on youtube. Anyway, some folks might like it. I thought this album was quite alright, and this is coming from someone who hates djent.

More rock than metal, but seem to recall some people like The Devil's Blood in here.

Saw Nightwish tonight. My feet hurt, my hands hurt, my back hurts. FUCKING AMAZING! Their last song summarizes it pretty well: GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH! Which they played in full by the way! All 24 minutes!
Arch Enemy as supporting act was also great.

I know this is essentially 'old school' now and not what people consider 'proper' metal, but Tool are doing a short tour in Jan and tickets just went on sale 40 minutes ago. I fought with Ticketmaster's horrible website getting through the process, then having the checkout page crash for like 30 minutes before I finally got through and managed to get tickets. I had to have this outburst somewhere.

I haven't seen them since 2002. I am excite. 14 year wait, totally worth it.

I wish I had seen them with Arch Enemy instead of Delain. That being said, I did get to see Sabaton after that which blew the place up. If it had just been Sabaton and Nightwish it would have been a better all around show...but yeah....I was destroyed after that show. They are impeccable live and Floor is the best singer they've ever had.

Not really. But you guys didn't even comment on the Al-Namrood post

I mean, how often do you hear black metal from Saudie Arabia?

no where near the same kind of heavy as some of you have been posting, but really got into these guys recently.
    1) Load the amount of weight I would deadlift onto the bench
    2) Unrack
    3) Crank out 15 reps
    4) Be ashamed of constantly skipping leg day

    Seeing Ghost next week.
    Should be cracking.

Then Soilwork a few weeks later in my home town.

Sabaton have just been announced with Alestorm in Febuary as well.

So many gigs so little time.
