WHY Ironforge and Orgrimmar. Just why?

On Every server I have been 95% of the population use Ironforge/Orgrimmar as the main city. Some servers have Stormwind aswell but why?. For example Thunder bluff is like awesome. A lovely city. You can even duel near the arena partners/heroic dummys and you don't have to go outside the city to duel.
And ironforge duel place, worst place ever to duel .Like darnasuss, would be such a awesome place to have people dueling. And orgrimmar and Ironforge is like the most boring capital cities. I know Silvermoon it is impossible to get to know and i guess it's the same with Exodar.
Any of you guys know any server with the server populated at any other of the cities?

I know epic fail at spelling I just cba

It is the easiest cities to get around in. Fastest roads to wherever.

At my server on alliance it's Ironforge-Stormwind, and i like those cities. I prefer to go to Ironforge because the city is imo better with bank and auction house and a cool spot to camp. The other alliance cities as Exodar and Darnassus are dead, and i also see those as too big, no gathering spot if you know what i mean

Well for one, Orgrimmar contains a bunch of stuff and due to the fact that Thrall is there, we go there as well.
As for Ironforge, I can't say, I don't play Allies as often so I wouldn't know.
I'm personally a fan of Undercity, I can't fall off and die like in Thunder Bluff or Orgrimmar.

At my server Darnassus isn't dead.

Getting from area to area in IF is a LOT easier than in SW. Ever tried leveling BS in SW pre-mailbox change? God, that was painful.

Then, too, IF is more in the middle of everywhere. A lot of people got used to IF being the "main" place because if you needed to get to a variety of raids stopping at IF was better than stopping at SW and flying piece by piece to get to MC/ BWL.

Stormwind is the main city on my server, and I'm guessing it'll be even more so after Cataclysm. Ironforge is obviously second, with Darnassus having about 10 people and Exodar having 1-2 above level 50s.

I loved exodar but the forge is too far from the AH. And if i remember correctly in darnassus there's no forge (i stopped playing like 5 mounths ago, maybe i'm wrong). Most people choose If because it's easy to go everywhere in a little time.

I don't know about horde but my brother always found TB very convenient

Org and IF everything you need are extremely close together where it takes a few more seconds to get somewhere else in another town

Thunder bluff is tiny, Undercity looks depressing and pre mailbox change AH was annoying, and Silvermoon is Silvermoon...

Orgrimmar is obvious - all the zep masters to go anywhere are just outside the city.

Ironforge is similarly obvious - it's a large circle and thus easy to get around, has a tram to SW and the boats there go to Darnassus, Northrend, etc and is easy to get to Menethil and the other boats, and is in the middle of the Eastern Kingdoms.

Re: WHY Ironforge and Orgrimmar. Just why?

on my server, Bloodhoof, Orgrimar is the most populated. But undercity isnt dead at all and is one step below orgrimmar. Thunderbluff is nowhere near as populated as orgrimar, but it isnt dead.

0 being no ppl at all and 10 being very populated

    Orgrimarr: 10
    Undercity: 8
    Thunderbluff: 5
    Silvermoon: 0

On some of the older servers at least I think theres still some residual habits from when the AHs were only in those cities. I know on my server theres quite a "culture" of hanging out on top of the Org bank or duelling outside the gates, and even though the same functionality exists in the other cities it's just become habit to seek those things in Org.

Re: WHY Ironforge and Orgrimmar. Just why?

I believe Orgrimmar and Ironforge were the only cities to have auction houses (before they were put in the other cities) so people congregated there.
That and the convenient layouts made them the best places to be.

Re: WHY Ironforge and Orgrimmar. Just why?

Because for 2 years Orgrimmar and Ironforge were the only cities with an Auction House, so if you were doing anything that related to you needing to buy something off the AH, gear crafting, enchants, alchemy, etc then you might as well do it in Org/IF. Stemming out from this, is that Org/IF were the two cities with the most ways of getting to raid zones. Menethil has the boat to Theramore for Onyxia, Orgrimmar had the zeppelin going to both UC and STV. They were also originally the only cities with Battlemasters to queue for Battlegrounds.

People became very used to doing their business in Orgrimmar and Ironforge. The addition of linked AH's in all capital cities, battlemasters in all capital cities, and did spread some of the load. However, we are creatures of habit. People continued to use what they were already used to, and therefore new players to the game learned from the start that if they wanted something then they had better go to Orgrimmar/Ironforge to get it done.

The reason some servers have switched from Ironforge to Stormwind was because of TBC. Stormwind was closer to the Dark Portal, as well as to Karazhan. However, none of this really affected the Horde, it was still take a zeppelin from either Orgrimmar or UC to STV, and fly to Stonard, or else take the Dark Portal to Blasted Lands and ride through Swamp of Sorrows.

Re: WHY Ironforge and Orgrimmar. Just why?

Old habits die hard. When the game first started Org and Ironforge were the only places with Auction Houses. Org was further solidified as the horde main city because of the Zepp towers. Then honor was implemented and you had to go to Org to get the rewards. All this made it so that Org became the top horde city. Since everyone was there who played in the old days (most of us memorized to layout of Org before any other city) all the newer players went there too.
