Re: But Mummy... they downed ICC Hardmodes really quickly :(

Gated progression is bringing WoW back to an epic raiding experience. It was a smart move by blizzard because it gives all players not in the top .05% something to believe in as a worthy accomplishment and serious appreciation for these elite achievements. If the game gets too easy then there isn't any reason to push yourself, as a good player, to new levels of expertise and skill. Wotlk is a work in progress and a worthy usher for what many of us will consider to be the "Golden Age" of MMORPG raiding.

    Nice1 OP! Much appreciated

It actually surprised me a bit, because of all the guys yelling about how faceroll ICC is, compared to the epic TBC endgame bosses (/input over exaggeration)..

Not taking anything away from the Sun Well or anything, but nice to see a confirmation that it, more or less, can be compared to ICC hardmodes in difficulty

nice argument you got going thar.
500-600 attempts on average for guilds to guild Mu'ru begs to back him up.

Also, with the whole TBC being harder id also like to say, Look at the badges system, being upgraded with the gear being brought out. a single badge system was in place in TBC, it made progression harder and take longer to move on to the next teired raid. A lot of people are whining about TBC being harder, due to the fact of the amound of time in between raids being released and being completed enough to be farmed.

However, Blizzard acknowledged in the recent Q&A that limited attempts didn't work out how they expected.

"Q. How do you feel about the limited attempts mechanic that has been use in Trial of the Crusader and Icecrown Citadel?
    A. We're not crazy about how they worked out. They were designed in essence to save players from themselves. In the past, some people would make 400+ attempts on new bosses. That's not healthy and at some point you're not measuring skill but tenacity. Yet, that's not what happened. Guilds just made alts to get around the limitations, and things like disconnects and accidents make losing an attempt really frustrating. We like gating because if nothing else it lets the community focus on more than just the final boss in the zone. If we do limited attempts again it would probably be limited to optional bosses like Algalon. "

I like the former comment by the person who said the same people who are complaining about Wrath were complaining about BC also, so true. In some ways I miss the former 5-players dungeons that took a couple of hours to complete. Having to plan each pull, decide on crowd control and etc. was entertaining. However, facerolling through the five-mans (with the lone exception now of HoR), can be pretty fun too, especially if you pull a lot of mobs at the same time. Gear has become so much easier to obtain that having a long 5-man dungeon becomes kindof pointless.

It's disappointing though that the player character aesthetics are lacking. Having classes all look the same, running around in identical gear, has taken away a bit of the uniqueness of gamer's toons. They really need to implement a way to personalize the appearance of your gear, something like is in the LotR MMO. I hope the customized cape option is a move in that direction.

This is true about the badge system, it's the primary reason why people think this expansion is 'easier' when in actuality it's made raiding better overall.
