Re: Positive PuG Experiences - Who made you smile lately?

Being the tank, I rarely get any positive experiences from PuGs("gogogogogogogooooo"), but I recently rolled a dps alt and joined my first dungeon on it(Gnomeregan).

As soon as we enter the instance, the healer leaves. Great, this is going to be fun. The tank, being a Paladin, proceeds to pull a few mobs and we make it to the tunnel-explosion-place. One of the dps starts the event while we still haven't got a healer.

However, just as soon as the first tunnel is blasted open, a healer joins the group. It turns out this healer is extremely nice and polite, something I value greatly in other players. We clear the instance without any problems, doing every single quest(apart from the escort).

What makes my PuGs are when people act polite towards each other, and don't think everything evolves around themselves. Just one nice person is enough to make the run great for me

    me: feint works wonders
noobrogue: what? that useless old skill?
me: *links* halves your AoE damage taken now
noobrogue: whoaaa i didn't notice that.
me: now what will you do?
noobrogue: not die to AoE spells! 8)

Re: Positive PuG Experiences - Who made you smile lately?

    Love this thread.

    Two things recently:

1.) On my DK tanking alt with horrible gear, I got matched up with a disc priest. He was flipping amazing; I don't think I ever dipped below 90% health. I jokingly said "wanna heal me in my dps gear/spec?" "Hell yes" was the reply. That group stayed together for 2-3 full dungeons with me tanking in dps gear/spec as flipping Frost with only 26k hp and zero extra mitigation stats. We never once wiped, never once had any terrible pulls, nothing. Hats off to you, random dwarf disc priest in 232 gear. I love you.

2.) On my main, I get into a group as a dps, notice the first few pulls are done and 3/5 of the group are from the same server/guild. They clearly were a little newish because they were talking in party about how they didn't mean to kick one of their members and how they were considering kicking me to try and get their other guy back. Thankfully, they let me stay. Even though they were absolutely terrible (a Frost dk tanking with a 2hander, for example), they ended up being nice, and the healer (only other one from a different server/guild) and I had a good time venting in pm's about the sub-2k dps'ers. Hats off to you as well.

    This is a fantastic thread.

One pops into mind, my young Disc Priest was helping through SMCath and I got lucky with another fully Heirloomed Prot Tauren Warrior, he was a machine! Literally pulled the whole instance, was really fun. To top it off he thanked me and said he couldn't have done it without my uber heals.

Was healing PoS HC on my shaman, had an okay group with nice people, anyways, my dog wanted out so after the first boss I warned them that I'll be going out with the dog, which will take less than 2 minutes.

Anyways, the tank says 'why dont you walk yourself' and the his friends went the same direction. It made me smile really, since, well, I'm walking the dog, how can I not walk myself? Also, pathetic insult.

I was thinking for sure it was going to be a wipe, but then I cane to rely on some old instincts I forgot existed.
I started to use CCs, Repentance ranged mobs, our priest healer shackled, and a hunter DPS would trap, if needed I also feared.
We only had 1 wipe but apart from that it went terrific and it was incredible fun, the feeling of teaming up with perfect strangers and yet finding such good synergy to down what people consider to be such a hard dungeon was just awesome.

I think H HoR was always ment to be done with a bit of CC to ease it a bit, its just too many people fail at it now a days, it doesn't even cross their minds they have CC in PVE.
    reminds me of something.

Thank you shaman, who at first /spit at me for only having 30k health selfbuffed, and being far from critcapped when we did HoR hc.
But yet managed to keeping the entire group alive, also thank you to hunter who trapped the rangeds, and the priest who shackled mages.

we might of wiped a few times in there, but it was a blast

    1)
Doing the daily random heroic, getting Gundrak. Blasting through in about 15min, fetching Less-Rabi on the way without trying.

    2)
I joined daily heroic with my paladin as dps (usually prot), getting HoL with a newly ding'ed DK tank. He had about 26k hp buffed. My paladin has 232 gear (5k GS) and i average 4k dps over the whole instance. In spite of my fear because of the huge gear difference, the tank barely lost aggro to me and was really vigilant. Thank you Mr. Unknown DK for proving that skill makes a difference!

    3)
Today i dusted off my warrior which i only used as a bank alt shortly after he hit 80. In my blue tank gear i am not crit immune and have ~21k hp. So i queue for random dungeon (not heroic) and get Forge of Souls. At first i am confused, because i didn't think my poorly geared warrior was even qualified to join the ICC 5mans. Then i apologize to the group, suggesting that they get another tank, but they say i should try.
Long story short: After FoS we also go through PoS and HoR without a single death. I didn't think they could be done at such low gear levels. And the rest of the group wasn't that overgeared: Two other people also get the achivement for the instances, meaning they never set foot in there, the druid healer was full epic (but barely above 200) and only the hunter was really good equipped (232+).

Re: Positive PuG Experiences - Who made you smile lately?

Now, before I write out mine let me say that I don't have a tank, so I'm not sure that the behavior of the one I will write about was justified somehow. I'm pretty sure he was an idiot though (don't worry, my complaints of him serve to be a positive reflection on the rest of the group)

Being a rogue, I generally have 10-20 minute queue times in my battlegroup. However, on this day I got a very quick queue, which I realized was because the dungeon was in progress. Before I thought better of it, I clicked enter, and yay, it was HoR. Obviously, we had a failsauce tank and people came and went like water. As I didn't want to re-queue, I hung with it. Eventually, we end up with said moron tank (a paladin, which will tie in later), a dps death knight, a fairly weakly geared disc priest healer, and a third dps besides me I can't remember. I salute here the priest and the death knight. This paladin insisted on pulling the gauntlet-style event by having everyone stand in the entryway with him in front so that the mobs aggroed him first, which is correct; however, he then made no effort to keep them on him. He wouldn't move to them, no Consecrate, nothing. Naturally, eventually the healer would gain aggro and start being attacked by the ranged ones. As if we read each other's minds, the death knight took the left and I took the right. I misdirected and locked down ranged on my side, and the death knight effectively tanked his, initially trying to grip it over to by the tank but seeing that he made no effort to grab it he just held it after that. The disc priest managed to keep all of us up, stunningly even when I ran out of stuns and had to tank an add myself. After this hell, we moved on to the Lich King escape, where things were much harder to compensate for a stupid tank during. We barely clear, though, though myself and the death knight die right at the end. The healer apologizes to us, and unfortunately the random dungeon feature was still having its bugs worked out and I was unable to whisper her to thank her for basically healing three tanks the whole time.

The super geared and also super friendly (/gasp) tree in a random H HoR that kept my pet kitty through the first boss in there and provided a feast for the group.

HMmm lets see, two of my recent memorable pug experiences...

the warrior with a 3000 gs who can't tank the violet hold because he doesn't know boss mechanics (xevozz)

    or

the the healer who, who also happens to be the group leader, that wipes the group three times because she doesn't cleanse permafrost on forgemaster garfrost in PoS

Surely way better than: OMGPUGSUX or WTFLAG or NONERFPLOXGC

I have a nice day if other group members actually have a brain (i.e. a Ret Pala using Hand of Freedom on another group member, dispelling stuff, using that grounding totem if it's needed, etc.)

A person in absolute CRAP gear pulling 7k dps, and someone in all ICC gear pulling 4.7k. I cried inside with joy!

<3 threads like this. Where did we lose the general concept of this thread along the last four years? I wish the ratio of threads like this to QQ was more balanced, but I'll take what I can get. The OP's first post in this thread made me ^_^

Re: Positive PuG Experiences - Who made you smile lately?

My best experience would have to be in a pug H HoR as a tank it started out with a pally priest and a lock, and i was concerned with the pally since she had a 4.3k GS (I had started to develop that GS = skill mentality) but oh boy that was a great group, the pally would repentence and fear two mobs and the priest would shackle another without me even asking them too. It was like the group was in perfect sync ^_^That pally is my hero because she knew how to actually CC while most of the other dps i usually get just AoE before the mobs even reach me. and suffice to say that run made me lose the mentality about how GS = skill ;D
