I see top geared ferals using idol of mutilation, and yet I'm seeing people post BiS lists that have the idol of the crying moon. So I'm getting mixed signals here. When should I switch to the new idol?

At first I thought maybe I should switch when I started to brush the crit cap, but again, looking at players who are much better geared than me, they continue to use the idol of mutilation. I'm guessing if you're geared enough to go for the armor pen hard cap, all your gem slots will be monopolized with arp gems, which means you'll be a considerable distance away from the crit cap, with no room to boost your crit with agility gems and such.
So this would mean the idol of the crying moon is only viable for arp soft capped ferals who are gemmed agility and are close to capping crit?
Crying Moon is better for bosses, but it's a small upgrade. Many ferals will first take the T10 pieces, maybe a cloak or two, possibly the haste trinket too. Personally, I will collect another T10 set for tanking, before finally taking this idol.Originally Posted by mineko
I don't hate you. I'm just not necessarily excited about your existence.
It depends on how much movement/downtime you have on rake as the agi bonus can drop off if your rake isn't ticking. And then much be built up to max stacks again.
Where as the mutilation idol has no build up time, so is better for heavy movement/target swapping fights.

When you would like your ramp up time to be even higher than it is already.Originally Posted by mineko
Crying Moon is the best tanking Idol by a wide margin. It would be wise to pick it up for tanking (and dpsing) before going for T10 for your offset.Originally Posted by Jon
but if he's a cat as mainspec, taking first t10 for bear and THEN that idol is the better choice. because as a bear I took t10 first aswell.
and 20 agility bonus for cat is not worth that 30 emblems. :P
If you play as a cat then switch when you have 30 spare badges and nothing else to spend them on. If you're a bear, pick it up after you have your 4 piece set.
because 4t10 as cat sucks, right? /facepalm
It's something like a 40dps upgrade compared to the mutilation idol so most of us will be spending badges elsewhere on items that give 90-150 dps upgrades.

Not that it's impossible to keep up the buff from the idol of the crying moon -- I was using it on sindragosa the other night and ended up figuring out a good strategy to keep it up nearly all th etime. But it's not as easy.
Also, all of the other pieces are higher priority.
yeh i would say crying moon is better but for some fights i use the other one
