Is anyone going to miss defense?

So I Know when blizz took away the crushing blow mechanic a lot people QQ'd, so iwas curious as to whether or not there was anyone who liked def as a stat and were actually going to miss it? I find that I do really like def only because of the extra avoidance it brings. My hope is that since they are removing def that later raid gear will have more hit and expertise on it so tank gear has a bit less of an Iron wall feel to it.

As a side note since block and parry are being significantly changed my hope is that each tank will have a greater focus on specific avoidance type like dks focusing on parry more and warriors and pallys block.

In a way I will, getting def capped wasn't exactly hard but the amount of pugs ive entered with some pala/dk offspeccing tank gear sitting on 480 def is a bit stupid, it shows they havn't had time to work on their tanking skills or gear, now that anyone can just make a tank offspec the amount of bad pug tanks will increase because people will think "Oh it's that easy.."

Whats embaresing about that is thats not even the defense caap,as so many call it; its the defense MIN, its a emre technicality and iv made mistaakes equal to this but i digress

And the amount of bitching about it will be tremendous. First it's about how few tanks there are etc etc, now it's about how they're making it easier and more appealing to try out.
There's no logic to the crocodile tears about this. You won't lose anything on this.

I for one feel that this makes tanking much more appealing to me. There will still be tanking gear, there will still be avoidance and such. There will still be something to achieve with it, something you need.

There are already tons of bad pug tanks who aren't def capped trying to pug with bad gear who don't know what they're doing. It will simply be easier for all of those bad pug tanks who just want faster queues to get away with being bad.

the problem that will happen with defense being gone is you will tons of "dps" tanks for faster queues.

Tank "meh, i hate these queue's, I can just go into def stance and tank, it'll be easy"

Thus, if the same thing were to happen today, you'd end up with a 20k tank in heroics thinking he can tank because he has defensive stance....

The reason players didn't like the loss of crushing blows is because Paladins and Warriors tanked while actively avoiding crushing blows by keeping shield block/holy shield up. Crushing blows were an interesting mechanic because it meant part of your tanking rotation was about staying alive and the rest was about threat. Current tanking rotations are threat based, I don't want to get into all the paladins I've seen lately who ignore holy shield. The closest thing we have to the old system is Blade Barrier for DKs, but honestly 5% damage reduction just isn't the same kind of mechanic that crushing blows used to be, and keeping blade barrier up is automatic if you are doing it right.

I will miss defense in Cata, defense is a tank's hit rating. You start off with +Def gems everywhere to get capped, as your gear improves you get to stack better stats. Cataclysm is probably going to be +stam in every tanking socket, why even give sockets then? I know they've said they want avoidance to matter more with the way they are changing healing, I'll believe it when I see it. Moreover +def was a good avoidance stat, I just don't see the need to get rid of it. Any reasonable player knew what +def did for him, including what it does over the (soft)cap.

I agree that def is like tank hit rating. If hit is here to stay I think def should be as well. I know that it really isn't def "cap" and the cap isn't what i'm concerned about unlike hit Idk any tank that gets upset when gear pushes way over 540. Only time i see tanks mind def is when it's on trinkets which never happens anymore. i find it over all way more interesting then hit tbh.

I tanked almost all the WotLK heroics on my warrior back when the expansion came out while completely crittable. It wasn't about "faster queues." It was about gearing up as fast as possible and realizing that the OG heroics in WotLK have no gear requirements. It was about not wasting resources on something I would replace in a couple hours.

BTW, there's no such thing as a def cap. Stop trying to act informed when you get the basics completely wrong. The "def cap" is actually the minimum level of defense you want. It's the opposite, the inverse of a "cap." It's the polar opposite. The antithesis.

Was always nice reaching the def soft cap on a new char (or during new exp), although it was a nightmare as DK at the start of WotLK, then again it felt good when i finally reached it.
