    My ideas to fix mages...

I know this will get mixed responses from the community, but I was thinking of some changes to mage talent trees and glyphs that would really improve some things for PvE. I know changes are coming in cataclysm, but hey, can't a guy dream.

1)Make focus magic a trainable spell for all mages.

2)Make the scorch debuff last longer, but only be able to be on one target at a time. Mangle debuff is getting upped to 60 seconds, and Faerie Fire lasts 5 minutes. 30 seconds is just annoying.

3)Get rid of torment the weak. For fights with adds, etc. it's a crappy talent design. When its up it's great, when its not, it sucks, particularly when combined with the fact that we already need the moonkin/warlock/unholy dk debuff for 13% more spell damage. We should not be that dependent on other people to do maximum damage. In order to compensate for this, I have the following ideas:

    a) For arcane, change glyph of arcane missiles to: Increases the damage of arcane missiles by X% to all targets > Level 80.

    b) For fire, first revamp molten armor to give a % of intellect as crit to an amount necessary so that they can get rid of glyph of molten armor all together. Buff fireball and pyroblast by a slightly higher amount thru empowered fire talent. Create a new "Glyph of Pyroblast": Your hotstreak procs will increase the critical strike damage of the next pyroblast by X%. (Pyroblast should hit hard, harder then fireball, and who doesn't love huge numbers?)

By removing torment the weak, this would allow fire specs access to icy veins and precision, which would give fire the on demand burst it is currently lacking, and reduce the amount of hit needed on gear.

Thoughts? BTW, If you don't play a mage, don't leave useless trolling responses please.

mages dont need fixes... they need nerfs. They have been fucking buffed every damn patch while others have been nerfed into oblivion.

I'm not really suggesting a buff, but something that would normalize our damage and make us less reliant on other classes to do our damage. If torment the weak was removed totally, we would lose 12% damage, and my ideas were a way to recover it. Rogues have "prey on the weak", but it's based off their own health % compared to the targets, at least that's a better mechanic then torment.

I quite like your ideas. I love my fire mage, but the scorch duration annoys me too, and I agree about Pyroblast.

Yet again another dumbass pointless response. How does L2P have any bearing on this discussion? Torment the weak is a terrible terrible mechanic. To reiterate, combined with the moonkin/warlock/unholy debuff, it is a total dps loss to even bother switching to adds on fights that require us to do so.

Bonespikes on Lord Marrowgar, Phase 1 Lady Deathwhisper, Jumping to the other ship for Gunship, Bloodbeasts, Dreamwalker, etc.

On tank and spank fights, when torment the weak is on the boss, I agree, we don't need buffs, that's not what I'm talking about. Correct me if I'm wrong, are there any other classes that require two debuffs from other classes to do 12% and 13% more damage?

Arcane is fine, fire is getting tuned to arcane in the next minor patch.

What I think they should do is add pyroblast to empowered fire and TTW.

    OH WAIT
    STFU and kill shit.

    1, 1, 1, 1, 2?

why would i want to cast 4 unprocced AMs followed by an arcane barrage?! :P

    G, G, G, G, 1 imo

And mages dont need fixing, 30s > 60s on scorch? You're just being lazy.

My idea would be to nerf them by 15% - and that's what I would call fixing mages... not making them 10% more OP.

Re: My ideas to fix mages...

My main is a mage. It was my first ever char. I love it more than any other char I've played. We definitely do not need any buffs. Our dps is sick. Fire is getting a slight buff to bring it alongside Arcane which is great. Blizzard have already stated that they don't like the talents that are solely responsible for large swings in dmg. EG. TTW. This will be fixed for Cata. We don't need any attention whatsoever. We are more balanced now than I think we ever have been.

Try playing an Ele Shammy or a Boomkin. If any caster dps needs attention its those two.

Sorry but I really just can't sympathise with you here. Firstly, any death knight who's not fallen asleep will spread diseases to all targets. You'll get the 13% magic damage buff AND TtW on all mobs, so this point is completely moot. Arcane mages are pretty much least cost of target switching of any spec in the game, and fire mages are incredibly strong on aoe. Of course you're going to lose some damage from target switching...but so does literally every other class, so I can't help but cry QQ here :P

And yeah our mage pulled like 15k on BQL10 the other day, so frankly I don't think you have a leg to stand on.

Mages need nothing right now except a new Q button since some of you are wearing it out.

Those of you that are not, carry on.

Mages were fixed some time ago. They're fine now.

Re: My ideas to fix mages...

Regardless of your flaming responses, torment the weak is stupid, and that is my main complaint, all of the changes I suggested after that would be only fixing the damage if torment the weak was totally removed.
