    Boomkin Lack Of Threat Reduction

    hoping this is something constructive.

Feral cats have cower to reduce threat, however boomkins dont receive anything. when majority of classes have abilities to reduce their threat allowing them to burst to their hearts content, we sort of have to manage a bit better if we cant get vigilance or an occaisional salv from a pally tank. Surely we dont have to switch to cat to cower. I can keep up with my mage who outgears me until i have to slow down because.. boomkins dont make the best tanks :P Shadowmeld stops them from attacking but still doesnt drop any threat.

If It comes to the stage have to stop dps, so be it, but when it comes down to the crunch, that little bit of extra burst without the risk of pulling of the tank would be awesome

If i get alot of threat as Doomkin, I just got cat-form and spam Cower :P dunno if it works, but it gives me something to do while my threat goes down/tanks get more.

I dont have any threat issues in wotlk, perhaps on trash when i start to early with trinkets active.
But then its barskin+warstomp or cyclone/roots works aswell.

Pulling aggro from our raid tanks who do nearly 15-20k tps well that would require some heavy starfire crits :P

Agreed. They doubled our threat reduction and its still to high, just shows how stupid it was before the fix :<

Re: Boomkin Lack Of Threat Reduction

If u have threat issues with 2\2 nature's reach - ur tanks doing something wrong, boomkins in my guild run with 1\2 nature's reach and have no troubles.

Re: Boomkin Lack Of Threat Reduction

Nature's reach 2/2 is more than enough for me. Nobody in our guild has threat issues on single targets, neither warriors or warlocks.
Maybe your tanks are low geared/bad playing.

Re: Boomkin Lack Of Threat Reduction

    stop whining about threat reduction

at least you dont have to use high threat abilities in your DPS rotation to do decent dps

learn to ask for a salvation, or ask your hunters and rogues to use tricks/md.

Re: Boomkin Lack Of Threat Reduction

I run 1/2 Nature's Reach and have no problems unless the tank is horribly undergeared.

Cower does nothing btw. It's like 10k less threat on a 10 second cooldown.. which is nothing when any decent cat shreds for 12k+.
Plus, we have to burn 30 energy on it and we can't clearcast it. Honestly, I'd sooner BS+SI than put cower on my bars. :l
I tell you what though. The next time your little sister loses her dolly in the neighbor's yard, and he punches her in the throat, don't call the cops. He has a sign on his lawn that says "this is a PvP lawn, noob, gtfo lol". ~Fenixdown

Re: Boomkin Lack Of Threat Reduction

you should have 2/2 natures reach alot less threat and sometimes alot less moving
the only time i have threat problems is with realy undergeared tanks in heroics and sometimes when i pug a toc or something
if it comes down to it call out for a salv from a pally

Re: Boomkin Lack Of Threat Reduction

We run with really talented tanks with really really nice gear. Iv had agro broblems.

Generally speaking agro is not an issue, but with some rng luck and/or buffed nuke phase im nocking at the door. Just lay down on the nuke part, refresh dots maybe re do IFF, check if some one needs your innervate. You should be back on the safe side in few seconds.

Not that we really really need a agro reduction button, i wouldnt mind if we would get one.

For all who say that tank is doing something wrong: maybe you (or your guilds) balance druids are the ones not palying to their full potential. Im top 5 in agro most of the time. Right there with locks.

    ...

Moonkins dont have a threat reducing ability, true that... but they do have a passive talent which gives what? 9-10% less threat?

so i rlly don't get OP's point. besides if you and the tank are on the same level of gear it should be impossible to out-threat him/her with that talent. Unless the tank has a bad rotation.

And seriously if you don't wanna overagro, just hold your fire for a few sec whats so hard about that. bad dps is better then dead dps.

Re: Boomkin Lack Of Threat Reduction

Cower is not an option for moonkins. First of all, you need to be in melee range, and the time you spend swapping forms and so on, you may as well just stand still for a few seconds.

But where excactly are you pulling aggro? If its trash, then its no bother - standing outside of an AOE pack generally fixes that, and if you are still about to pull aggro, wait a second or two, and it should be fine. If you are pulling aggro on bosses, then it sounds like a tank issue. Even if i pop everything from the start, I don't think ive had any aggro problems for a long, long time.

There are a few exceptions. Vezax is awesome for moonkins, and you will simply have to hold back. Deathwhisper cripples the tanks threat, so you have to just watch yourself - but this should generally not be a problem.

Are your hunters MD'ing and rogues using tricks? At any range, people are putting out a lot of threat in the beginning of fights, and the first tricks usually go for tanks in our guild, and then they won't lose aggro with this little lead.

In the end, unless you come with some concrete examples on when you are pulling aggro, then we can't really help you. You don't give us anything to work with. If this happens all the time, then it sounds like a tank issue. If we are talking about heroics, then.. err.. lol.

Re: Boomkin Lack Of Threat Reduction

Its primarily beginning of the fight, sindragosa has been the biggest issue for me, and like i think i said, its mainly after hitting some big starfire crits that omen starts going mental. I had vigi on me to the OT and his threat on auto attack was going through the roof. LDW can be a problem for anyone but its something you come prepared for anyways, penalised for pulling some sweet SF crits is a bit of a kick in the arse for how eclipses work

Slowing down a bit at the start will make a difference, but when we are lacking in some dps from other players, every little bit counts towards trying to beat enrage timers. My main point to it is I have vigi on me, I'm sitting 2nd to 3rd on DPS behind mage and even with ele shammy and yet its my name up there on omen screaming at me to stop. I'll speak to the tanks and see what they thing, who is giving them the most trouble in threat

Is your tank stopping to attack as soon as he gets 1 stack of the debuff?

Re: Boomkin Lack Of Threat Reduction

Thats a luxury problem then. It can be solved with tricks and MD's, or better tanks. Unless you are struggling with being close to pull aggro a minute into the fight (ungimicked), everything is probably fine.
