What are your PUGs capable of?

I had to make this thread, after reading this:

you wont be able to kill the lich king on a random pug... just like you couldnt kill yoggy.
All over this board, people are complaining about PUGs. Sure, everyone has had the full T9 player doing 1,5k DPS in a random heroic dungeon (hell, we have one of those in our guild - but those are the people you just learn to avoid). But my question is: are PUG raids really that terribad?

On my server I find most PUGs quite good actually. Of course there are certain people / guilds you may want to avoid (ignore list comes in handy here!), but all in all, I definately get more done with random people, than with my (extremely casual) guild. Especially if you've played on your server for a while, you get a feeling who is capable of playing their chars and who isn't.

    Things I've accomplished with PUGs:

    - Tribute to mad skill (10 man) - although many people on my server have successfully PUG'd "insanity" as well!
    - 8/12 ICC (25 man)
    - Glory of the Ulduar Raider (10 man) & Observed Achievement (10 man)

Now allthough we seriously outgeared poor Algalon (there, I said it before someone could reply with "BEATING T8 CONTENT IN T10 EQUIPZ IZ SRS BSNS!!1!"), I am still somewhat proud of that achievement and the fact that I cleared it with 9 other people from other guilds, with whom I had never before attempted said boss. Surely, I am not the only one with positive PUG experiences? To come back to that opening quote: I am positive that I will kill the Lich King before Cataclysm (probably with 30% buff) and I am positive it will be with a PUG!

Let us hear about the good PUGs you've had! (Please refer to one of the 10.000 other threads to whine some more about them )

Anub25 (normal) first week when it came out, most guilds where still struglin on valkyrs/champs.

Observed 10man, however in the ToC days.

    ICC25 9/12 (BQL yes, PP no(t yet))

4/5 TOGC10, only pugged that once, ~3 weeks after Heroic was available.

ICC10 11/12, but thats more guild then pug :P

    _____

EDIT: And as i've seen + killed LK25, I'm pretty sure he IS puggable, however, people must have experience with that fight. And ofc, it will take some time.

On pugs in ICC never gone past Marrowgar without being in guild, in ToC we can make it to twins and the balls gank them. i probably just find shit pugs with same guild members in a guild named like "Burrito Fo Bellah"

Re: What are your PUGs capable of?

Pugs on my BG don't get past fester, if they can handle fester at all, rot took about three weeks for a pug to clear. The only runs that actually do well are guild runs that pick up an extra person. For instance last night I did a pug with 9/10 from one guild, we cleared 8/12, one-shotting lowerspire and all of plague, +council in about 2.5 hours. Only other successful run was a full guild alt-run that did lower, plague and dream (getting dances with oozes and portal jockey in the process).

Find a run like that and get in good with the RL, try to get invited back and then you don't have to pug anymore anyway.

PuGs on my server wouldn't be capable of any of those things you listed. Hell, they probably won't be able to make it past Saurfang until the zone buff hits at least 20%. Luckily, I have a guild that I love that raids, so I don't need to worry about pugging.

    Best I've seen is on my prot warrior, 6 / 12 ICC 25 and 7 / 12 ICC 10 (Putricide downed).

Re: What are your PUGs capable of?

I've been leading mostly pug raids on my server since WotLK came out, due to a bad schedule on my part. I've seen some bad ones, but all in all, we've done pretty well. Only 5/12 in 10/25 ICC, but Rot seems to be a block for players who've never seen him, and there always seems to be at least 1

11/12 ICC10, 23% was best attempt on Arthas.

Mug'thol is often referred to as Pug'thol since we can fill a ICC25 at 2am on a monday night

Actually it's because we have so many downies that can't maintain a guild spot.

And that group you are talking about wasn't a pug.

Sounds like you play on my realm ! I haven't pugged anything major myself (yet), but I've heard of these taking place.
The icc25 8/12 was actually last week, on a GDKP run (so a lot more organized pug compared to average /2 LFM pugs).

Re: What are your PUGs capable of?

It's funny how some people say here : "we've done LK25 and 11/12" and otherwise impressive achievements(for a pug) and then forget to mention how most ppl were from top 1st/2nd guilds of the realm.
It reminds me of the conversation I had with a guildmate of mine back in SWP when we was struggling at M'uru and he comes saying :
"Hai gais, you know that PUG killed KJ?"
    "ORLY?!!? PUG?!"
"Yes they had like 15 people from <1st ranked guild on the realm> and 7-8 people from <2nd ranked guild> and some 1-2 people that left <1st ranked guild> earlier, with a raid leader from <1st ranked guild> leading" <--- definetly a PUG
Later we found out that <1st ranked guild> couldn't get 25 people together and to have a chance at loot for that week they went for the "PUG".

Re: What are your PUGs capable of?

Yeah, it really depends on what you consider PUGS. On Cenarius US, it is very common to find both 10 and 25 man ICC PUGS (with 10 or fewer people from a single guild in the 25 mans, and 4 or fewer on the 10 man) which can get up to Saurfang with one or 2 attempts on every boss. It's also common to find pugs where you wipe on trash or Marrowgar 2-3 times and the thing falls apart.

Saurfang is where things change. I've been in quite a few where you fail on him even in 10 man (although none recently). It seemed that we had a number of 10 man pugs with partial 25 man gear doing Festergut in 10 man but not being able to do Rotface. Last night I did my first ever 25 man PUG which actually downed Festergut, and that took about 5 tries.

Even the 2nd week it was out, people were PUG'ing TOC25 and TOC10. I've been in a number of TOGC10 runs, and one actually got to LK with > 25 attempts left, although most can just kill beasts (if that) and possibly Jaraxus. I've had 2 guildies run in different groups and get insanity in TOGC10, and there are quite a few groups doing 10 and 25 man hard modes in Ulduar now.

    U.S. The Underbog (The Underbad)

We cant even pug Utgarde Pinnacle (Heroic)

The closest thing I've ever seen to a "pug" completing anything was a 25 ToC, where 15 of the players were from a respectable guild on the server, 7 were from the top guild on the server, and the last 3 were random goobers pulled out of trade chat.

This was also only about 2 weeks ago.
